How is it a swing axle is stronger than an IRS? IRS has a 8 bolt ring gear instead of 6. They have stronger ring and pinion gears, and they have corse teeth on the gear stack, and better syncros. You can build a type 1 to handle a lot of power, It just costs money. the side cover on that trans is on the wrong side for a mid engine. it needs to be on the ring gear side to help the carrier from deflecting down It would be hard to put an 002 or 091 trans in a mid. you cant flip the ring gears like you can on a type 1 trans. you would have to run it upside down and there would be no way to oil it. Not saying it cant be done but hard.
without getting into a huge debate...run a stock type 1 IRS against a stock type 1 swing axle with the same motor setups and the swing axle will take more abuse...this has been beaten to death for years. At the end of the day you are dealing with a type 1 trans, which is nothing more than a turd. I dont care how much money you dump into that thing it will always be the weak link. It's just like the 44 vs 60 argument.
