The idea behind a mini gooseneck is weight distribution and capacity. Think of your truck as a big lever, and the rear axle being the pivot point. When you use a bumper pull it puts the weight at the end of the lever, this puts more stress on the frame and takes weight off the front. When you use a goose neck it locates the weight over the pivot point aka the axle. Less stress, better ride and the trailers generally have more load capacity than a bumper pull.
