I wish we could make this discussion a lot easier and take the whole "benefit of being married" and toss it. Why do we need to give benefits to people for being married?
Edit: I guess I was thinking monetary benefits, like tax incentives, but I forgot about things like having rights involving your spouse, like wills, medical treatment, etc. That's another reason why it should be legal. It's all well and good to allow them to "do something else" as Brewmenn says, but shouldn't a gay couple who has been together for years be able to have the same rights as everyone else?
