Default Stereotypes / Profiling question

First off CMUJeepers your opinion is unwanted. Believe it or not this thread isnt intended to cause problems. Just some things I have seen at work this week have me wondering why people are afraid to stereotype. As for my question.

Do you think it is bad to stereotype or profile? Does it work sometimes? Dont most stereotypes start from some truth?

As for the profiling part. Why is it when you go to the airport the are doing the extra security screening of old ladys and not Arabic men?
I dont remember many old women terrorists. Just because it isnt PC doesnt mean it isnt right? I'm not a politician so why do I need to be PC? I am more worried about the safety of my family and not someones feelings.
