It's all about prefference. I've ran 35x15.50x15 swamper sx's on my tiny axles with a rear spool and stock 373:1 gears for four years. I have not broken any axle parts yet and I am usually not that easy on it. Althought I have replaced wheel bearings a few times. My lift consist of an spoa with custom made 5" lift 2" longer front springs with missing link shackles. The rear is spoa with stock 86 jeep cj front springs with a 1" block and 1" taller missing link shackles. 6.5:1 t-case gears, with high range being 1.2:1 so it seems like running 447.6:1 in the axles. It turns the 35's ok, but I also have a 1.6 tracker engine so I have more power than the 1.3. I've been thinking about going to 33's before I break the axles, but I like the way it is with the 35's. I would probably lower it a little if I did that though.
