salt was about 38 bucks a ton last year this year it is 55 bucks a ton this price is state price for cities , counties and municipalites private contractors pay around 100-120 a ton . sand is ok in rural areas but in cities it is a mess and does nothing for ice controll salt brine with calcium cloride works great but very corrosive, now we use beet juice mixed with salt and it is alot better each year around the end of february we are told that salt is getting short it is basicly a way to drive the price up the next year i purchased 3500 tons this year for the season and will have 700- 800 tons left over to start out next year
