Lessons learned included if you have even 1 small thought about needing a cage it is past due. DO NOT WAIT. It is cold at night up there and a sleeping bag rated for 30 degrees is not warm enough.
better luck next year.. you took it on the chin better then I would have.. I got to give it to ya.. and your brother was a big help to anyone who need it...
