I was there in August two years ago.
It is crazy hot. It's easy to say "yes it's hot at 120 degrees" but hard to understand until you've experienced it.
While at the ranger station, a jeeper came in (nice lifted Rubi with top up and AC running) and reported that a bunch of German tourists just left for a 2 mile hike wearing flip-flops, carrying 2-3 year old kids, and packing a water bottle apiece. They lit off after them like it was a forest fire - that place is that dangerous in summer.
