If you're looking at it to buy, look for velcro or signs of tape being on the fuse box cover which is under the hood by the left front corner. That is typically where performance boxes are mounted. Get the vin and check with a Dodge dealer (not the one your buying it from) to see if the factory warranty has been voided and to get the repair history.

It should start quickly and have little or no smoke at startup. A lot of white smoke is bad. Check the oil for diesel fuel, a sign of leaking injectors. The oil will be black, that is normal even 5 minutes after a change. It is from soot generated by the "in cylinder" egr. Ignore the oil pressure gauge since it is fake. The block has a 6 psi on off switch and the computer just makes up the pressure shown on the gauge. I haven't heard of anyone that had oil pump issues, so I guess it doesn't really matter.

Check the ball joints and front wheel ujoints as these seem to wear prematurely for some guys.

You buying it from a dealer or private party?

Perfect answer. I have an 06 Mega with a Cummins. Its a great truck and I like it alot but maintanance is expensive. Stay away from BFG AT with these heavy girls, I had them on for a while and had the worst death wobble. This was also combined with worn steering components, but I changed them out and the wobble didn't go away until I got rid of the BFG's.

I have a DR performance pressure box on it and it is a great little power module. If you buy it, ensure to throw a set of gauges in it (boost, EGT, and either Fuel Pressure or Trans Temp). is a great site with a rather large MI crowd with very experienced Cummins enthusiasts.
