Default weird car problem

A little over a week ago on my 1995 Ford Escort, I was looking under the hood and thought my coolant might be a little low, so with spring coming and my temp gauge not working, I decided to add some coolant, figuring any extra would just come out the overflow. I added like a half gallon to the car. The other day I noticed that when I started my car, the coolant was leaking out of the top right hand corner of the radiator and dripping down. After the car is warmed up, the "leak" stops. Is there not an overflow on this and this is it's way of Purging some of the coolant? Do you think I need a new radiator? any mechanical insight would be helpful. thanks.
