Wholesale propane prices are down to around $0.71. Add in about $0.75 for transportation/taxes and you have a wholesale cost of about $1.45 to $1.50.

BUT, the wholesale propane companies that supply you (and me) probably bought their winter supply or at least a very large percentage of it over the past 12-16 months per their standard risk management practices and policies. That means that they probably locked in when propane prices were up close to $2.25-2.50 or more.

On October 1, wholesale propane was at about $2.19 ($1.44 +.75).
