lemme chime in. i've towed with a 4.7l WJ, 4.7l Commander, and a 4.7l Ram 1500 (2004).

the WJ did the best of all of them. the transmission in the Commander and Ram have different programming than the WJ did (at least than my 99). both have difficulty upshifting even going down a mountain. i had to get up 10mph faster than i wanted to go then letoff and coast until i decelled about 15mph (5mph slower than i need to go) and then step back on the gas and lightly accelerator for it to upshift going DOWNhill.

my brother HATES that truck for towing. his '94 1500 x-cab LB with 412k did better (didn't stop worth a sh!t compared to the Dodge's rear discs, though).

my Commander drove me NUTS towing a CJ back from Atlanta. i will NEVER use the Commander again (as long as I have my diesel Ram) for towing.
