Default Warn winch with Thermometric switches

So, my PowerPlant winch died on's giving me the old "flashing red light" on the controller which is supposed to mean the thermometric switch has been tripped. The pisser is that it didn't die while using it...just didn't work one day when I was going to air up the wife's tires....would winch in, not out...and now it doesn't even do that.

Tech is saying the switch needs to be replaced and I need to ship the winch to a service center in PA.

Has anyone ripped into one of these or similar 9.5 model to bypass the switch (the tech said it was possible to at least make sure that is the issue).

I'm not shipping a 100 lb. winch to PA until I'm absolutely sure I can't do it myself....and it is almost 2 years old and not under warranty.
