408 in specific. Im looking to build one for my truck... any input on them? What are you guys running for heads and intakes? Any pros/cons to them vs a 393?

I have built several, mostly 408's and the 420 that is in my Mustang.

408 are much better than a 393, more cubes and you get a smaller rod journal (2.1 vs.2.3), less clearancing needed for a 408. You normally end up with a lighter piston as well.

The only reason I would do a 393 is if you already owned the stock 351W rods and 302 pistons and were doing a very budget build, otherwise after balancing the 408/418's are normally less $$$.

Just built a 408 with a freind for his t bucket kit car thing. It's running edlebrock heads, edlebrock carbs on edlebrock dual quad intake.Neither of us like dual carbs, but you cant beat the look on an exsposed motor. (Unless it's blown)
It runs on pump gas and put down 504 hp on the dyno.
