its kinda sacred... as of now we have never been in trouble and the workers of the site came up to friends and said its ok to ride as long as they arent working the site.they stop at 5pm and dont work the weekends. i will be going more often but this was my first time going there.

It is a know place that very few have been able to go to. I have also talked to the workers before. I have been going out there for a few years now. with my dirtbikes and jeep.

I won't tell the location due to the fact that if everyone starts going out there they will start having problems with it.

I know they just want you to stay away from there work area during the day.

It is a fun place to just go play around.

well i guess while some people are worrying and asking questions other will be riding and having fun. life is full of risks. we take a risk of injury everytime you sit in a car and drive down the road. i went because i have friends who have been going for years. i didnt ask if it was legal,it probably isnt fully legal as far as getting written permission, but i will be going back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this gravel pit has been there since the 1800's. i think it was originally bought for $1.75 an acre by the Gaunt family(i think thats the name).they had well over 100 years to complain if they didnt want people on it. i agree it still dont make it ok but i will still go until otherwise told..

I have also been out there as it is a few miles from my house.. The cops have been back there and as long as you are not tearing shit up or under age partying they generally dont care.. But if you get stuck in one of the 20 or 30 ponds some wreckers wont go back there... It is kinda a dont be a ass and the cops wont be asses kinda thing.. But as far as permission there are many ways in and a few are blocked off.. The fishing back there is pretty good too..

Written permission doesn't mean what everybody here thinks it does...

Sorry to tell you all but it's only trespassing if the owner says it is. While I truly agree that illegal wheeling is bad I also support finding out the facts before I go lynching somebody for something that may be 100% legal.

There are a lot of very gracious land owners who will allow people to use their land when it is not in use for other means. Maybe you all don't know any but that's probably due to the fact that you're a bunch of assholes.

I have wheeled in a gravel pit before and I didn't have written permission and it was 100% legal.

give me a fricken break. Re-read the thread. I never noticed anybody referencing talking to the owner, but to the employees.

NO, and I mean ZERO business owners would EVER take the liability of having people using their property as an orv park.

These dirtass trespassers would be the first people to sue the pants off the owners when someone gets hurt there.

#46 ·
sure some business might but as soon as an accident happens the property's insurance is gonna say no and drop the coverage! (due to ins buyer not following ins contract!)

then u watch as some law goes into effect nixing all offroad use on non orv properties!. then all non orv areas/lands/property will be illegeal!

4 months ago, I tried putting together a 4x4 challenge type thing. I found a gravel pit that was more then happy to let me do it there, and setup a course, and use their machines. They wanted the publicity.

Sounds great, right? free of charge??/

Next call was to my lawyer. He put the numbers together, and heres the numbers.

Coverage of 1-350 participants:

dismemberment :tonka:
Loss of life
personal liability
property damage

$11,000 for 48 hours of coverage, if the following was made:

Ambulance on site with paramedics
1 exit per each 100 vehicles
specators must be 100' from any moving vehicle
1 portapotty per 50 people :tonka:
100' Barrier around any heavy equpment

Plus the cost to setup an LLC to cover my ass.

I'm sure a lot of savvy business owners are shelling out loot so strangers can roll around their property.

So your lawyer sucks? That's all I got out of that. For $11,000 you should have been able to get a years worth of coverage.

We pay about $700 for event coverage for our mudbog ever year. That's a 1 time coverage. We have event coverage at our Snowmobile club that allows us to put on races year round and it doesn't cost us $11,000. I believe it's under $2000 for the year. This covers motocross, snocross, drags, and anything else we come up with.

You could easily incorporate GL4x4 and have events under the GL4x4 name for paying members only and your insurance would drop substantially.

Hey, but the employees (workers) there said it was OK. That makes it right.

And for me....... understanding the law (whether I like it or not) and trying to abide by it..... AND...... trying to promote our sport "legally" makes me an asshole. If that's the criteria, I take that as a compliment.

Ill shed the light on my place , Im set up different then say a gravel pit to start with . The towing company is more of a general public area , so my insurance assumes there will be people any where on the property . A gravel pit has a public office " IF " its a decent pit . Insurance company assumes only a limited number of trucks will go past the office limiting exposure to public . Then you are required to stay in your truck at all times or have a hard hat on . In short my property ins was set up under different exsectations of land use then a gravel pit . They would require to alter or extend there usage .

Secondly i requre ALL vehicles to have plates and insurance that want to come here , In Michigan no fault auto ins is the 1st up to bat so say you run over my foot while your here YOUR paying the tab not my insurance .

Regarding a Tuff truck comp . I could have held that event and the ins was an additional $1,500.00 for a 2 day event . I all ready had the insurance set when politics started and i dont play politics . Major difference is i own the land , When you are on some one elses place you start the need to CYA your self , the land owner and every one else envolved thus the cost of insurance goes up .

Setting up the little course i have here and accomodating people as we have has cost us money . Past pig gigs did not put one penny in my pockets . With the up coming gig i have done a lease to the swamp stompers and will make a couple bucks from it .

Futher more i have offered to lease it to clubs or groups for short term use . A typical week end would make about $100.00 bucks after cost . Would you want to pay my land tax on that income ? If i wanted to play smart business man they lease price would double today and you still could not lease a place to camp and play for that money .

listen, i went to the pit with some friends. i took my son along because he is in to wheeling and at a young age i think its great. .... my buddy and his friends from the vassar area go there all the time so i thought i would join. im not bragging about illegal wheeling(wheather it was or not). i was posting up pic of a good time i had with friends. its what the pics and video section was for, i thought. everyone can assume its illegal, some of you assholes can try and find it and ruin our fun spot(which nobody has mentioned the same location so fuck off).im not trying to slander the sport or make a bad name for wheelers alike so i appologize for sounding like i dont care. i think we all are guilty of doing something illegal like smoking pot, drunk driving, wheeling while drunk or high on government property such as the mounds. once again i appologize for offending anyone and getting you old timers blood pressure up . i didnt put the location coordinance for the simple fact that i was a guest who was invited and went. i was just sharing pics of some fun i had. it wasnt suposed to be a bitch session about how stupid i suposedly am for doing so. i think only half understand the circumstance at hand and agree, others dont and thats fine too.i agree that illegal wheeling is not cool but like i said, i was a guest who drove my daily driver there and decided to go for a spin where all the quads and bikes were going. enough said

RokToy, it is different (like I stated before) in a pit owner inviting friends/family to wheel on their property.

I find it hard to believe that the pits you used to drive in was open to everybody.

Are you talking 10 years ago before everybody looked for a reason to sue somebody else?

#65 ·
No, thats what I am saying, we had verbal permission to enter based on a few people who had permission that were allowed to invite a few friends, this could be similar no?

Open to everybody? Not really, but it didn't get out of hand, and the police were never called to my knowledge. It wasn't like sitting at themounds or silver lake in line to get in, but there was a good mix of people on any given weekend.

10 years? No, sorta, and yes. Each location was different, but hoser has permission to go to a location that we went to last summer with Elusive and his zuke. I would imagine if he didn't own a boat he could wheel there tomorrow.

Thanks for the directions. That place was a blast!! I ran over 4 ducklings on the way in, shot about 2 dozen rounds from my handgun into the air, raped one of the local junior high school girls who was hanging out smoking pot, peformed abortions on 2 other girls with a coat hanger, dumped 8 gallons of waste oil behind a tree, then took a dump on the ground and wiped my ass with a squirrel. I can't wait to go back.

uprock fella......... I agree. That's why I asked right at the get go if it was legal. Didn't try to challenge or accuse.

Your comments about you and hose sound like you have a verbal from the owners of the pit. Not that it is legal "without" written permission but I wouldn't make issue if a person knows the owner. That becomes their own relationship.

If Bill had said that he has permission from the owners, it would have been dropped.

Maybe my long story on the previous page is too much effort, as some have said, but I am trying to help rather than hurt all of you who will hopefully be wheeling long after I am done.

this is a long thread, been off the site for a few days.

just like this site, it seems that alot of assuming is going on.

I agree with alot of threads in this post, but as I have posted previous.

the definition of assume = ASS-U-ME

to put this simply, someone that has permission to ride in a certain area. you have a friend that is friends with the person with permission and your friend assume's he can invite some of his friends, and so-on and so-on.

the end result is that everyone, except the one with permission are ASS'S
