I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500 Cummins 2wd pu. I have to put a new bearing on front the setup is basically a unit bearing. it has a spindle in the center with a nut that is a 1 time use only nut that holds bearing ion place and is 1 11/16 in size. anyone know the torque spec for that nut. I have check at 2 autoparts stores, the teardown book I have and called the dealer which was a waste of time and still no idea. autozone website says 280 ftlbs but that don't sound right at all. thank you for any info.

well after an hour of searching I have seen 3 different answers. I have seen 110ft lbs, 180ft lbs, and autozone at 280ft lbs. so since there was such a wide range of torque specs I was hoping someone knew the correct spec. like I said I had already looked on internet. and 280ft lbs seems way to much for a zinc nut plus prob need a 10ft cheater bar for that much torque so I am finding that one hard to believe but could be wrong.

I don't know where you got 110, but 180 is for 4x4, and the multiple places that had 280 all said that a cheater bar was needed. It would also explain why the nut is a one time use only. That is a lot of torque on one nut
