It's time i finally get with the program and buy a better phone. My 4 year old flip phone isn't cutting it anymore. So for the tech savvy people what is a good smartphone to buy and why? I have Verizon service so thats what i would like input on. My basic desires are internet capable, easy to use and durable. Would be great if it was fairly fast and had good cell reception in the local area.

Get one of those smartphones. Those things can do everything. Phone calls, surf the internet, it does voice-to-text, it does email, it can play music and clean your yard too.

x26.

Basically, the "must have" phones right now are the Samsung Galaxy S4, the HTC One (slightly smaller screen than the S4. Arguably better build quality than S4, has a unibody aluminum construction as opposed to Samsung's plastic. And has a 4mp "ultrapixel" camera they're calling it. some new tech lens), iPhone 5 (blah.... same ol apple iphone that's been regurgitated over and over again, with incremental updates for the last 5 years. Same tired old design and operating system. Yes it works. Yes it's reliable. Yes it's a quality device. But to me...it's just a tired old design. I want something new, different, innovative, customize able, just something DIFFERENT.)

Personally, I would get the S4 or the HTC One.

Got rid of my Commando because it was horribly outdated, slow and crashed on a daily basis.

The only thing it has going for it is durability. I miss leaving my phone in my pocket when I waded into the lake while I was fishing.

If I'm not mistaken you can get an extended battery and make it last as long as a razr maxx HD. Believe me its nice to have a 3 day standby on your battery.

galaxy s3 for cheap
galaxy s4
htc one (when it comes out)
razr maxx

all 4 of those will treat you really well.

I have the HTC Rezound and it's a great phone. my daughter has the galaxy s3 and the wife has the razr (non maxx)

all 3 are great phones so far.
