Today's progress, pto and t case pulled just about ready to pull trans. Plus yanked the rest of the hard top parts need to go find the other windshield from Jacob's
Working on finding a fan for it... I am not super keen on flex fans, though the ones I have used have proven themselves to be better than that electric. I just always cut myself on them.
I believe it is a 10.5" pressure plate, as I believe that disc was a 9.5"
There are some 10.5" early 70's Ford cars with the same count & size splines as the Jeep disc. You just need to mill (or grind) about 1/8" off the disc hub for clearance. That's how mine is set up.
SOLID steel blade, no 'flex into your radiator' fan!
There are a few companies out there that will build you a custom clutch disk for not much more than a good quality replacement clutch....when I swapped the SM420 into my 2.5L YJ I had just replaced the stock clutch with a heavy duty LUC clutch and I think it was Clutch Dynamics that made me a custom heavy-duty disk with a Chevy hub to fit my SM420....as I recall they had tons of options.
A lot of the early 5 guys were running Fiero cross flows, I figure this should be a little better :teehee:
New steering shaft on the way, fan and spacer on the way, and hope to order a column next paycheck.
This thing has really taken care of me, this is the first real money put into it. Hopefully I can get a clutch disk, I found the throwout bearing today. Looking more like a custom clutch disk will be in order, I have an email into the company 4bangler mentioned.
Well, My rear driveshaft was >< that close to breaking. Adam noticed it is twisted like a pretzel, just not broken when he was measuring it to see if I would need to shorten it.
Clutch Dynamics wants to look at my pressure plate and stuff, they think they can make me the clutch disk I need for about $100. They seem VERY knowledgeable and are genuinely nice people on the phone. They asked that I bring my old parts over, and what I have and they can get me something that will work.
I picked this up yesterday from TJ/Willys on here. Great guy, really took care of me when I had a trailer break down.
I'm going to try not to bang this one up. I am still confused how on every one of these tops I have looked at the door latches are broken and mangled beyond operating.

I'd like to see Dan get down the tighter stuff :teehee: My goal is to NOT smash this one. I may have to swap on the old one just for Snofari.
I can't wait to see how the rig changes for next year with more gear under it. Frankly, it probably won't affect it much as it'll still be an on/off switch for the fuel. :teehee: I'd like to get new tires too, but I may just trailer it and keep these again. I can't decide what I want to put under it with the TSL's backordered for who knows how long. I wish I had not let my 15x8 chrome rims go either.
Looks like they are building me a ceramic clutch, hope it works ok, I know you can't slip them well, but after looking how burned the old one was I figured the upgrade might be worth it.
On that challenge Dan & I will find tighter trails :sonicjay: Actually the 5 stays home and all of the pre runs are done in the Cherokee so we know he can fit. I never drive the trail til the day of the event!
I know where you can get a set of 16x35x16 Boggers already mounted on 5x5.5
Ceramic isn't that bad, my 81 has one. Get a front locker so you don't have to play on/off switch with the skinny pedal. Those Warn OD's do not like on/off shock loads at all. Can't wait to see it back together!
Think we will have to mod the upper bracket slightly but the column fits nice then fix the floor with the patch template I made using steel of coarse :fish:
The brake pedal return spring is not hooked up so the pedal is down a little
Advance adapters clutch chain setup is pretty slick....
