I put my smitybult xrc8 on 2 years ago and have used it a few dozen times. For $280 shipped (at the time) you can't beat it. The problem with the HF is it is slow. The snotty built breaks and I'm told you can't get parts for it. Maybe look in to the value line warn winches.

Look into the milemarker sec8.....mine has been rock solid and they can be had <300$....from what i have seen it seems to be a level nicer than smittybuilt / harbor freight but i may be mistaken. Only annoyance i have with it is its got a fair amount of resistance to free spooling but definitely not anything difficult by any means

Trish wants to get a winch put on her XJ for Christmas, (yes I said the C word ). She's buying a dd this winter and plans to eventually make some axle upgrades.....but for now it's stock other than a 6 1/2 lift and 35's. Looking for something fairly inexpensive that will do the job. Thoughts on best for my buck?
I just can't get past the awesomeness of 'stock other than 6 1/2 lift and 35's'.

Many would consider that to be 'totally built off-road vehicle' :teehee:

The only car my old man ever bought for me to drive (not to keep) was an 87 Taurus he revived from a junkyard, and my sister beat on it for 2 years before me.

I didn't get a jeep until he drug home an 89 yj with broktid 4wd from the same yard, and he handed me the bill...
