my grandpa has a stock ranger at his cabin up north. His cabin is on a river and he wants to be able to drive the ranger like 10 mins down the road so he can tube to this bridge then drive the ranger back....It is a VERY rural area....basically, everyone told him to just do it and play the "im old and didnt know" card if he gets caught...But he wants to make it legal. So what do you have todo to these things? If he just puts a orange triangle on it does that make it legal enough for back roads?
Theres a guy in my town that has a side by side all set up with turn signals, brake lights, and a license plate. Drives it on the road all the time. Even down town.
if he wants to make it legal he needs lo/hi beam head lights, tail lights, turn signals, windshield, seat belts, and the hardest part is dot approved tires. then once he does all of this he has to get it inspected by a police officer or someone similar, then submit the paper work to get a registration and license plate.
if your county is not OVR Open then you need to set it up. it has to have..
roof
windshield
high & low beam head lights
turn signals & brake lights
running lights
seat belts
DOT approved tires
windshield wipers and at least two mirrors.
after all that you can take it to get inspected and have the title inspection done. once thats done the state will issue you a new built vehilce title.
well that stinks. if you can get a rickity home built dunebuggy legal why will they not allow those? they should come street legal for as much as they cost!
I have not looked into these laws so don't quote me. This is what I was told.
I agree it is kind of retarded. Granted, there should be a few restrictions as far as what roads they can travel on, but I don't see where it would hurt except for crashability. The auto is going to win everytime but then again that is the operators choice. Same thing with 4wheelers. I'd love to see those road legal. Heck, I'd ride one year round!
hey i live in reed city mi, 4 miles west of hersey it is in osceola county. And they just passed the orv bill here like a month ago, so he is good basically needs a ORV sticker and keep it under 25. This is what i am gonna do when i get my golf cart

unless its being used for farm work going to and from fields to house or vise vesra its going to get you a ticket. Plus we had someone here get a ticket last year for no ORV sticker even with the farm bill. by the way the state police hand book is the only thing that shows a Triangle being legal. the actual law is for a 100 square inch reflective flag 8' above the road.
