What club are you in and what type of wheeling does the club do?

I am in Southern Michigan Rockcrawlers (SMR)
As the name says we are a rock crawling club. Most of the club's rigs are jeeps on 37's or bigger several on 42's. All of our runs are out of state to places like Harlan ky, Canada, The Badlands, Windrock, Moab, etc. We do encourage family and safe wheeling. I bring my wife and 2 children on most runs. We are however a fairly hardcore club and they do get out of the rig for really hard climbs. Body damage is common and encouraged:sonicjay:. I dont think my tj has a straight panel on it. You can check us out at http://www.southernmichiganrockcrawlers.com/ Hopefully there will be an updated site soon (Bondi get to work).

X2 However I too agree with Stan. For me it's more of the social stigma of being apart of a club that does good towards charities and/or social events. I have moderately built jeeps that once I get them fixed I know I will do better at attending more of our out of state wheeling. I too have a family and a job in the sketchy automotive industries so I have pretty much been laying low.

I will make the Pig Gig though :d:

I used to belong to a few, but realized I don't care to wheel with large groups much.
I also found that I don't really have much to offer to a club, as far as getting 'involved'.

So I just stick to wheeling with a few friends that I get along with and have the same interests.

I know the feeling. SMR has about 10 rigs at the most that do most of the wheeling. You dont normally get big groups to travel out of state so we have small groups also. Our club is a wheeling club. You dont have to offer anything but having fun.

Fun to hang with.

Variety of trips, most family orientated.

Donate to various causes.

You are still free to go on small trips with yer buddys outside the club, or choose to not go on X trip with the club.

Maybe I need to look eleswhere??? I am in Waterford.

Not a member of a club although have been a club member of different hobbies. I found that with a club, it ended being more of a social group than the hobby itself. Seemed like we ended up doing graduations, weddings, helping move, helping roof, etc with the only true common bond being the hobby. From my observation with wheeling, most clubs have a diversity of attitudes and capabilities that create problems. Some are pissed becuase the lighter guys are holding them back, others are pissed because the hard core guys want to do too much, etc.

I have found that I enjoy wheeling with people who like to wheel similar to me. Then for the most part, we go our separate ways for family, work, etc.

I attended an SMR meeting a couple years back and was quite interested until I was told "we won't do ***** becuase we don't like ***insert name here***. It just struck me as a snobbish attitude. I also attended sno-blind once and got the same impression from a different SMR member. Really talked down to me about my rig when they didn't know me, my driving style or what was under the hood or in the diffs. Maybe I am wrong but first impressions can kill what could be a good thing.

Do I have anything against clubs? Absolutely not. There are times I wish I was part of a standard group where it was a given that I would be invited on some trips. Sometimes I see where a group has gone out of state & I think it sure would be nice to be part of that group.

BTW, yes part of GLFWDA which is not a club.

We have had this discussion before. That is why I did do ***** on my own. Sometimes you just cant break old bad blood. We as a club are far from snobbish. We are however not the club for a newbie wheeler. Not that there is anything wrong with that (we all started somewhere) we just don't cater to that type of wheeling. I suggest to everyone wanting to join a club to go to more than just one meeting and to go out on some runs with that club to make sure it is a good fit. Jim, you are welcome to come out on a ride to see how we really are anytime you want.

Two Trackers

The Club is a family oriented trail riding organization. We hold a number of trail rides, voluntary forest clean ups and charitable events. All Club events are alcohol-free due to obvious illegality.

We welcome visitors to join us at two meetings and/or one trail ride event for free. This will allow you to look over the club, find out if the club is the type of organization that you would like to join and the members the people you want to call friends.

We are not a brand specific club (i.e. Jeep), but many of our members do have short wheel-based vehicles due to their nimbleness on the trail rides. The trail leader will be able to discuss the relative difficulty of their event and other aspects of the ride in relationship to your vehicle.

Essentially, all you need is a 4x4, common sense and a properly secured winch point to ride with us. In most cases, the trail rides will require the 4x4 to be road-worthy as paved roads connect the off-road portions of our events. Some events are more serious and you may wish you had over-sized tires, lift kit and/or locked differential more specifically the out-of-state events like Attica, Moab and Tellico are for the very serious and well-equipped off-roader.

We are members of United Four Wheel Drive Associations, Blue Ribbon Coalition and a charter member of the Tread Lightly! Program.

See you on the trails!

Northwest Ohio Crawlers (link in sig)

Pretty much a wheeling club, but we do have social gatherings.

It just started up last Nov. so it's still somewhat loosely organized and without drama and politics. It was the closest club to my location and I'm sick of wheeling with all you MI idiots. :finger:

Very family friendly. There are about 25-30 members I think....but only about 1/2 attend the out of state trips.

I have gone on trips with DMJC and the Swampstompers and hold members of those clubs in high regards.

The biggest benefit to our club is IMO is the local wrenching connection, and teaching the less experienced wheelers the right way to do things.

We do have dues that include our membership in UFWDA and allow us to lease some private property that we can wheel on year round.
