I originally posted about my speedometer not working probably a week or 2 ago.

95 ranger xlt, ext cab. 2wd. 2.3l manual

quick recap... new abs/speed sensor on rear diff., new speed sensor in side of trans, 3 (I repeat three!) different instrument clusters... STILL DOES NOT WORK!!!!!

after the 3rd cluster it worked for 2 miles one day and 16 miles a few days later...

after those 16 miles it has not moved at all...

went to junk yard today and pulled a good looking trans wiring harness and stuck it on my truck....still nothing...cleared the speed sensor code...still nothing... disconnected battery to reset everything....still nothing....

probably gunna try one more cluster out of a buddys that works for sure...

other than that I am out of ideas and im getting pissed.... my gas gauge doesn't work so I guesstimate it from my trip odometer...refill every 300 miles...usually about 15-17 gallons worth...I basically just don't wanna run out of gas...especially when its no degrees outside...any help would be greatly appreciated....thanks...Ryan.

UPDATE AGAIN>>>

so today I took the cluster out of my other truck (99 ranger) THAT I KNOW WORKS...and guess what...the speedometer did not work....

in other words what is the likeliness of the exciter ring in the tail end of the transmission took a shit?

***I changed the speed sensor on the side of the trans..(took the first one back...warranty) and put another one in....still nothing...

from what ive herd the sensor at autozone suck ass...I agree...I hate autozone but its the closest to my house...3 miles away...so that's where I go when I need parts now...

let me know any info....PLEASE!!!! this speedo and not knowing my gas is drivin me nuts... thanks. Ryan.

Your trip odometer works but the speedo doesn't?
the speedometer, trip odometer, and the odometer that counts all miles do not work at all.
This is the part that confuses me...

Have you checked fuses?

Are you sure the pinouts for a 99 cluster are the same as the 95?

Have you checked continuity of the wires?

I would bet on a broken/corroded wire.

The signal comes in on a gray wire with a blk tracer, pin 12, look carefully at that wire and pin connection at the cluster. You could hook up to it with a multi-meter set on a/c voltage and see if you get an increasing voltage with increasing veh. spd.
