Not sure if this is a repost, but has anyone heard of this show yet?
Starts in January, I can't find much about it, other than the detroit bro's were on it. Filmed by the same people who did monster garage, its suppose to be similar, only filmed in the D.
In another episode, they transform a 1992 GMC Suburban into a pothole filler with a 10-foot nitrogen spring-loaded arm, rotating hot box, 500,000-BTU torch and hydraulic tamping front end.
Has the potential to be a cool show. I lol'd a bit at the pothole patcher. We could definitely put a few hundred thousand miles on that. Hell, throw it up on 24's and we might be able to get Tyrone and Latisha from the DOT to stay in it long enough to actually do some work.
I did and was about to submit a thread on the topic when I did the re-post search.
Here is what I had written up....
Anyone watch this show tonight? It was the first show of the series and it seems to be a mix between monster garage and a charity case. I thought it looked like a decent show but I was HIGHLY disappointed. 2/3 of the show was how bad "detroit needs these guys to win, so they can "rebuid detroit""(the 5 builder guys who get 5K in tools). The other 1/3 was split between showing a what came across as a half assed build and portraying how "artistic" one of the brothers is.
The pilot for Monster Garage was lame too. I kinda hate the sob-story they keep playing about Detroit being so shitty, but I guess reality hurts.
Anyways, I watched it. Was a bit better than the manufactured arguments on American Chopper and the "I'm a badass, fuck off" attitude of Jesse James. The tool set they got was a bit more complete than the Snap-on set they'd give away on Monster Garage, as it included a welder and a chop-saw instead of just a $3k top box and a screwdriver set.
I'll give it a couple more episodes to step it up in the creativity department, but from what I've heard, it will do just that.
I think mike hallas is gonna be on one of the upcoming episodes, unless there is another car building show in Detroit on disovery. He wouldn't tel me what he built though, guess I'll have to wait.
Being a fabricator who has built several ground up projects I thought it sucked, just like I thought Monster garage sucked. Take the money spent on those shows and give it to charity, I'd watch that! By charity I mean send a kid to school to learn the trade not disgrace it with this dribble.
Those Howe and Howe guys need to buy a tubing bender, cut and splice is how they build their machines. Nice designs but would be better executed with a bender.
