i replaced the starter and battery in effort to get my truck started, but it didnt. i found that the purple wire going to the solenoid is not getting power when the ignition switched on, so i replaced the ignition switch. that didnt work. i already went through and checked and double checked and cleaned the connections everywhere, grounds and positives, im out of ideas now. can anyone help?? the truck doesnt do anything when i turn the key, the gages all look like its trying to start, and the radio turns off like normal when i turn the key but it doesnt even make a noise..

any ideas are welcome :)

You probablly have a burn conection at the firewall bulkhead connector. most likely where the harness pops through and connects. test your circut and if it ends there you found the problem. most likely a corroded spade connector. if you don't take it apart you can route a new wire through the fire wall and out to the other side where you can connect the circut again.

Thats a good sign. I guess you just have to find out why the power isn't coming to the engine side? the longer I sit and think about it you may have to drop the colum down to the get at the switch to test it. its been a few years but they are mounted on top the colume tube and are a bitch to reach. I guess if you can find the main power into the switch you should be able to turn the key and see if its coming out? if not your back to a bad switch.

not sure if the that year of truck has one but there is a inline fuse going to the starter but if i remember right it was a red wire been awhile since i've worked on one but if it's bad it will do nothing when you turn the key. i think it was close to the starter on the one's i've worked on. look's kinda like a fuseable link and it's black but the truck's that i know that have these are 87 older.

There is a neutral safety switch on that truck, it's on the back of the steering column when looking at it fromt he floor, it's near the fire wall, it looks like a pair of white plastic brass knuckles (closest i can describe it lol) minues the holes lol

and my 96 tahoe is kinda doing the same thing, except if you turn the key to the "on" position, you can start it by pushing down the starter relay in the fuse box under the hood, f-ing weird

yeah the system has 3-4 if I remember right. theres one on the starter that attaches with the battery cable. then one off the Alt. then two more under that plastic shield above the heater box. most went to a jucntion block there. on the flip side if you find one bad you probablly found the problem.
