I love my 276c, but my issue has always been with the limited storage on the cards. While the GPS (that is 8 years old) is more accurate, fully waterproof, and basically damage proof, you are limited to 512MB of storage. Well, at least the max that was ever released by Garmin was a 512mb card. Pair that with detailed maps of michigan, plus VVMapping.com 's trail maps, and I end up not being able to include all of the maps I want for snowmobiling, or jeeping trips.
I was doing research on chart plotters, trying to find the equivalent in the new lineup with a SD card, opposed to the large garmin cards, and discovered I would have to pay $1300+ for an equivalent setup. I bailed on that and started researching modifications for the 276, and I found a post from some Russian guy 6 years ago on an ATV forum claiming he had cracked the memory card, and was selling 2gb memory sticks for the garmin x76 lineup.
Even a 512mb card on ebay is $100. http://www.ebay.com/itm/GARMIN-Data...250?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27d56807a2
So instead of buying an additional $100 memory card, I think I purchased a 2 gig modified card for $160.
Here is my email communication:
