I have been try to think of an efective way to install a sliding drawer into the rear of the Xj. I was thinking of a tool box drawer, but need to enclose the top of it. Has anyone built anything like this and would know a good way of doing it?
I just build one for my tj. Its about 28 wide and 35 deep and about 13 tall. It works great and keeps all my parts, tools, ect, in a safe enclosed area. I would do a build thread but this site is fucked up and nobody seems to want to fix my issue with pic hosting, so no build up thread. sorry.
What have I ever needed that I didn't have and what have I ever borrowed from you? Usually your tools are easier to get to because there just laying all over the floor rattling around. :fish:
Next time you need my jumper cables I'll tell you too bad, they're bungeed.:sonicjay: Actually, the only thing bungeed on our last run was my chainsaw.

I keep my spare parts, fluid and extra large tools in my rubber maid. But I still have my tool boxes with hand tools that need to stop sliding around in the cargo bay. I want to be able to store about thirty pounds in the drawer. I was thinking of making a frame of 1"x1" steel to mount the drawer slides on. Any input on design?
I have case's for my sockets already, just want to store them and my other hand tools below so I still have room everything the wife wants to bring:teehee:
go to sears and by their blowmolded box for $30. the one they sell in the store has 4 drawers, one each for 1/4" drive,3/8"drive, and 1/2" drive, with individual spots for sockets, rachets, drive adapters/ext. and one misc.tool drawer for wrenches, screwdrivers and extra needed tools. I use one that has 3 drawers and a flip up lid that has latches on the side to hold the drawers in, but you can't get that case by it self.:thumb:
I wanted mine to be as deep (tall) as the wheelwells so it was big enough to put in stuff like my jack/jackstand, fluids like gearlube in the upright position, toolbags, partsbags, and camping gear if needed. I didnt like the idea of a lift top because I will have a small rack to hold gear or totes but as of now I just have two rubbermade action packers ratchet strapped down with eye bolts.
There are some drawers out there in the aftermarket that would work but they are $900-$3000. Theres a company that makes some cool gear for tactical vehicles that is very nice, and very expensive.
I built one out of plywood for behind the seat in my LJ - I'm too cheap to pay $480 for the Tuffy box. I only put a small drawer at the top of mine for little stuff, everything else has it's own bag/box so I really didn't need dividers or big drawers.
Look at the link a few posts above mine, it gives all the details.
