So I've planed This nice trip up to traverse city. I rented 2 rooms. One for me and my wife and one for a friend and his wife.
I paid for this trip over 4 months ago. It is at a high end winery and i dont want to say the name yet. I paid out the ass for only 3 nights.
So we got a late check in because we left tonight ( Thursday) once everyone was off work. We did not make it up here till 12:30 am

When we got here I had a code to get me in. I used it. There was an envelope on the counter when I walked in with my name on it. In that envelope was 2 cards. Each one containing the code to get in our rooms.

The place is rather large. So we start checking it out. There was only 1 car in the parking lot so we were not being silent but we were whispering an being generous of other people who may be sleeping.
We went down stairs to see the gym an the shared living room. As we were walking up the stairs we were greeted buy a man in a robe pointing an ak47 at us. We were told to "Get the fuck out" I than Said "what the fuck do you mean get out? I paid for Rooms here.." He than said sorry, he used that gun in nam and than went back in his room!!!!
Thoughts???????????

I think he is some sort of host for this place?
I'm going to talk to management in the morning ( they are all gone at night)

But WTF????

That sounds pretty f'in crazy/shady to me. I don't care what establishment it is they should have someone working the desk 24/7 (especially if it was decently priced). I used to have a magnetized card maker for my last job and I could have easily scanned the cards they left on the counter, copied them and had entry into your room. Secondly, who is to say that guy hadn't already "met" everyone else before you got there and easily could have "greeted" you differently. Messed up stuff

The establishment only has a few rooms. It is only him and us. Him and his gun will be here in the am. I can describe his gun. And he has it in his room. That will be my next step. I'm kind I in shock. I would never expect this at a place like this...

Only a few rooms, sounds nice and cozy. I would still expect someone to be working and/or greeting people properly. What if there was an emergency (I.e. your situation), or someone couldn't get into their rooms, or the internet wasn't working and you need it for work, etc.... You payed good money to be there, your stay should be as comfortable and hassle free as possible. None the less, I probably wouldn't leave my room again before normal business hours.

He used an AK in Nam? When did the American troops use AKs? Or is this one of those "everything with a stock is an AK47, everything without is a Glock" situations?

Soldier Military camouflage Infantry Military uniform Military
The ubiquitous Soviet AK-47 was widely regarded as the best assault rifle of the war and it was not uncommon to see U.S. special forces with captured AK-47s.

It's pretty simple...

You have a Vietnam Veteran guarding your hotel. In the middle of the night he hears people moving around downstairs and has no idea who they are or what they're doing. He grabs a rifle and checks to see wtf is going on. Once he verified that there was no threat he promptly apologized and returned to his room.

Doesn't sound like an issue to me.

Meh... I would sleep easier knowing he's actively protecting the place and his patrons.
I was just going to say that too. I'd sleep a lot better as well.

You came in late and instead of quietly going to your room, you admittely wandered around and made no effort to be quiet. That is nothing but fucking rude. In fact, you were so loud that the owner no longer could think that it was late night guests arriving but instead some hoodlums possibly robbing him.

He owns the place.
He protects the place.
You should appreciate that or leave.
