Well since jeepinlunatic had a HUGE argument about this last night !

Opinions welcome too !
Personally i like the GM truck overall the best ! cept for the IFS and cheap plastic snap together dash !
But i still feel their truck's are the most comfortable.. And i've heard nothing but good about the Durmax/Allison Trans combo !

Interesting... I'm ready through my backlog of Automotive News mags at work here.

There's a 3 page article about how Ford is getting its ass handed to them due to the 6.0 PSDs..

Intersting stats in the article:

-For 2003+, Cummin Dodges have 0 technical service bullitens for the engine. Chevy duramax's have had 8. The ford 6.0 has had 77 TSBs.

-In summer 2003 alone, ford bought back 500 trucks with engines that were too troublesome to continually repair.

-Ford will not acknowledge the specifc warranty cost but acknoledges that warranty costs have ballooned $500 million more in 2005

-According to the NHTSA, many trucks never made it home from the dealership before fuel injector and/or turbo failure occured. At least 14 accidents have occured from engines stalling.

-According to a dealership techs, Damaged turbo fins are to be blamed on air filter issues, and the $700+labor will not be covered under warranty.

-The 2005+ trucks appear to have fixed most of the problems.

I have no personal experience, just summarizing the article. I know that my Father's company(before he retired) built the assembly lines for the 6.0. He warned me of all kinds of issues they had with the motors as they were built and tested, and to stay away from them.

Anyway, thats from the Dec 12th 2005 Automotive News. More of a trade publication, probably something you won't find at the store.

Good post about the automotive news. I was just about to post the same thing. seems the PSD for awhile there had some electrical gremlins.

The Duramax is an impressive engine, the cummins works well, but is not quite as refined. This is a summary of what we've seen at the tech center I work at.

I'm a dodge man, and I dont necessarily like refined.....so the CTD is it for me.

Uhh Was this a real Question ... LOL

CUMMINS POWER !!!!!!

The latest Greatest PSD has 77 TSB's the DMD has like 8 and the CTD = O !!! I admin a Diesel Forum and it seems 60%-70% of all Ford PSD Owners who buy new sell just before there out of warentee .

Ford uses the Exact same Cummins engine in there Bigger trucks 2 tons ect ...

Have you ever heard of anyone putting a PSD in a Dodge ??? :)

Cummins 250,000 miles before top end rebuild PSD 150,000

I suggest a test drive of all three ! Be sure to test the Dodge last so you dont have to go back anywhere ;)

This may have been stated already but the cummins is just plain beefier than a duramax. I am in engines lap right now that happens to have a cummins and duramax both torn down right now. Everything about the cummins is just bigger and stronger than duramax. I know a few people in the 200,000 to 300,000 mile marks with cummins and not problems just adjust the valves and run it. As for the powerstoke why bother if they have had that may problems with the 6.0 already. A guy that works for internation said they arent even expecting to get 150,000 out of the 6.0 thats less than a gasser of today.

Dude I live in Grass lake, where was the event at? I never heard nothing about it

John Dakin hosted at his place. He runs Dakin Equipment over in Jacksontucky. Watch the TDR Local and Regional Chapters & Events forum. There are several TDR events held around here every year it seems. I've made it to 2 of them now.

Yeah, Chaz made a HUGE mess that night. But, man it was the most incredible burnout I have ever seen. After he pulled forward, the wind blew across where his tires were roasting and ignited. It was simply awesome. Too bad there was liquid rubber spewed all over John's garage. :sonicjay:

Biggest thing that showes is the cummins has a longer stroke. Having something that compaired materials, tensile/compression strenght of said materials, yield points, densitys, etc woudl be a much better comparison.

:) Much Much More Possitives to the Cummins ... The new PSD's has 77 TSb's the DMD has 8 and the CTD has None

simple explaination.

dodge is the only 'light duty' truck w/ a 'medium duty' semi engine in it.
you don't see any semi's with V8's, they are all inline engines.

with that said, I rest my case.
i wouldnt call a 5.9L a medium truck engine, however the duramax is in the kodiak and topkick which are medium duty trucks. im pretty sure the powerstroke is in some medium duty trucks aswell

its too bad the dodge trans needs lots of hard parts as soon as you get up there in power.

Isn't the Cummins-powered DCX medium duty line currently in design? I recall articles about that not too long ago.

It should also be noted that its the automatic trans that has the issues.

the 5.9 cummins is in way more medium duty trucks!! than the other 2 engines. do some homework, go lift up the hoods of some medium duty or heavy duty semi's.

the 5.9 cummins has connecting rods the size of my forearm, and the powerjokes/durasnacks have little baby ones.

Cummins is a semi engine company! all they do is semi's and dodge's.
or anything else with a cummins engine in it.

any truck needs trans mods as soon as you get into building it.
my buddy w/ an 04 powerjoke, w/ a chip, filter, exhaust, toasted his auto tranny within a month! i know the allison trannys are supposed to be the shit, havent heard many bad things about them yet.

you dont see any Powerstoke only shops or Duramax only shops, because they cannot compete with the cummins

everyone, dont forget fordcummins.com :nana:

This is a tough decision looks and brakes wise my pick is the Dodge, Engine wise I would pick the Duramax, trans wise I would pick the ford or the Duramax. My brother has an a 02 Duramax 4x4 quad cab with a 150K miles on it great truck and averages 17 mpg with 33's. Only problems he has had is the trans. From what everyone tells me including several ford engineers that work on the superduty that the 03.5 to 06 PSD is a junk engine:confused:

My pick would prolly be the Cummins:thumb:
