wow, so its that time again. Can we say rebuild? Very soon my TJ will get taken off the road, stripped naked and preped for the next round of mods, heres a sneak peak of things to come:

quick run down: 4 link front(hopefully extend front axle 2-3"), 4 link rear using poly rear brackets and their rear truss, run Genright's high tube fenders, extended length rocker guards, and rear strech corners that will be trimmed to fit 39's-42's. As im doing that im going to modify my rear frame and move my rear bumper up to just below the rear tailgate. Ill be installing a Stak Replace-a-cast D300 and a Northwest Fab black box. Axles and wheels will be gone through and cleaned up. I finally plan on getting a full roll cage built that will incorperate a rack to protect the hardtop(mini exo cage), get some nice seats and build a custom center counsol and rear storage compartment. Later this summer, money provided ill build a 5.0 I6 stroker motor and a nv3550 trans.

Things that are still in the air: what fuel tank to run. I dont like the idea of spending $900 on genrights rear tank, so once the rear suspension is in place where i want it ill have to see what my options are. I thinking one of these
reworked might fit the bill

Im waiting on my fathers car to get trans work done before i tear this thing apart, and sell off parts i no longer need. Parts are starting to get ordered, so with luck work will start later this month or the beginning next.

What are you going to do about the 44/60 now that you'll be running bigger tires?

Looks like a cool list of mods!
the 44/60 will be plenty strong for 40's. The only major weak point on my front axle is the 44 ring gear. I wanna get a pair of longfields 300m u joints and have the gears cryo'ed, ill see where money is towards the end.

Well I think you might be able to handle it.. Im the only one that made a dana 30/35 last with my stroker and 35s. The only thing is that I believe that the larger tires are just going to load that much more torque on the axle shaft when wheeling and such. But give it a shot and see what happens.

dana 44 locking collar in the arb will be the first to go, something pinion related after that.

it will probably last you quite a while really.... I'm not trying to rip on you but given that you only really get out a couple-few times a year and not much if any is out of state.... you dont get too many undercuts and you wont see a situation that will break it very often so it might work out....

This is a PSA for everyone considering a 44/60 hybrid axle..... this is the perfect reason NOT to build one :sonicjay: sorry scoots... couldnt help it!

:thumb: ill basically run this shit till it goes boom, then fix whats needed. If the 44/60 breaks then ill get a solid 60 housing and Ill be all set:rock:

actually i have a new tech question for the guru's. I need to re-position the calipers on my rear axle. The face towards the rear and i want them facing towards the front. I believe the rear disk setup thats on it is like that of a 8.8 ford disk setup, any one have any suggestions?

yahoo! finally got a lot of parts this week from my good buddies at Unlimited Offroad center. In the garage are Genrights high line tube fenders w/3" flare, strech rocker guards, rear strech guards, inner fender mounting kit, rear truss, 4 link brackets, a complete set of factory JK arms and some Johnny joints. Still need a few more basic parts but things are comming together:woot:

i cant wait to work on it, i gotta work put the explorer back together thats sitting in the garage first but thats only a weekend job there. Should be getting torn apart by the end of this month:woot:

You run 40's with the front 44 and you're going to do one of 2 things. Drive it super easy or break it. I think you'll break shafts before you will hurt the ring gear. By the way, before you waste money on cryoing, you might want to talk to an actual heat treater rather than the typical "send us your stuff to freeze" folks before you spend the cash. True cryogenic treating must happen within about 4 hours of the actual heat treating to do anything with retained austenite. It becomes a buzz word.

quiet grandpa, a young dumb kid is talking here.

i think ill be fine when i choose to go to 40's, however this year im sticking to 36's. The option is aways available to build a Solid 60 and reuse all my balljoint outer components :naughty:

I bought my JK arms off Ebay, they are brand new. Granted they may not be as strong as double sleeved DOM or solid 7075, but for a factory they "seem" pretty beefy so ill give them a shot. Im only using the arms for the front, the rear will be DOM with Johnny Joints.

Like all good projects sometimes plans change. I ditched the idea of running the Stak RAC dana 300 t-case and the North west fab Black box. Instead i just scored an Atlas 4 speed with a HAD emergency brake, 1350 flanges, and North West Fab triple cable shifters for just about the same amount id have into the Stak :woot:

I also got a set of 12" fox coilovers for the rear now, so i guess now i gotta get some for the front. thats about it for now. here are a few pics.

4 link, rear truss, rear coilover brackets

high line tube fenders, 3" flare with Louver hotness!

Finally after months of jackin' my jaw i started work on this pile yesterday.

List of parts:
Genright high line tube fenders & strech armor
Fox 14" triple rate coilovers & 12" coilovers
Atlas 4 Speed T-case; 5:4:1 ratio, 1350 flanges, HAD brake, NWF triple cable shifters(should be in by the 2nd week of June)
12 Johnny joints, Poly Performance 4 link brackets/Axle truss/Coil over mounts, JK arms

I started removing all of the bolt on parts yesterday; rockers, corner guards, front suspension, t-case was removed the week before. I should have everything stripped out from underneith the Jeep by tonight.

Pics to come later tonight.
