What's the Legal on widening a trailer ??
I think it's 101" max width ??

i just plan on bumping the deck out to the same width as the fenders so i think im good there.. i just want to be able to put 2 quads next to each other on the back..

these are really the best shots i have of the trailer.. its a 18' USA trailer sales Car hauler.. 2' beavertail..

I plan on widening it from right behind the fenders to the end of the trailer..

do it. nothing to it. id use 2x4 or something similar at a 45 to the width taht your looking for. sorta like a triangle down the side and weld on the metal or wood that you want to use. sounds easy and will be more then strong enough to support a wider truck or the quads that you will be hauling. i tend to over build things and make them to heavy so any tubing will work. or bend up some schedule 40 tubing at work ad do it that way. easy to do it.

Here's what I'm working with. It's old, it's ugly, but its heavy duty as fawk. Tires are a dime a dozen mobile home Load Range E tires, and they use the old donut rims still.

And yea, 102 is the magic numba. I'd like to widen my trailer so it's around 7.5'-8' wide (90-96"). The reason I want it wider, is becuz the axles I'm using are fullwidth 60's, and the WMS on them is 69", well I measured one of the 44s I had sitting there, and from the WMS on the rim, to the outside of the tire is 9", so I added 18" (9" per side) to the 69" axle WMS-WMS width, and came up with 87" wide. I figure if I can take the trailer out another 4 or so inches beyond that, I'd be happy, for different width rims and tires and since I'm lookin at possibly doin Rockwells on down the road.

Hopefully this winter, maybe next spring, I plan on tearing the trailer apart and rebuilding it and doing kind of like you're saying with widening it. That's the only problem with it right now. As you can see, the frame on the trailer needs some TLC baaaad, or just a full rebuild / replacement.

And here's a trailer similar to ours, cept with a C-channel frame, and tubing for the parts he widened it...actually it's very similar though to what I'd like to do. Cept' I'd like to have fenders. Either driveover type, rubber, or a removable type. I'm also a big fan of the school bus....

Hope this helped ya see what tube might look kinda like....

Make drive-over fenders. :thumb:

JCR did my old trailer that I SOA'd, if anyone ever saw it. Atakrator here on GL has it now. They did a great job, too. Took the entire length of the deck out to the edge of the fenders, made me some nice & strong drive-over fenders that were framed with square tube, recessed all the lights, and beefed up the tongue a lot. I think every trailer I own in the future will have drive-over fenders like that one did.

It was the perfect height to tow behind my Ram. I miss it. :(

Hell, I would just use Schedule 40 and a Harbor Freight Kinker.

no need to pay someone with a tube bender or to pay for HREW

dude, you can either use the tube, or just build angle brackets and put wood on them. I know alot of trailers use that when they are hauling wider equipment. you can make them swing out of the way if you want or make them stationary. you can use tube or square stock.that would be the easiest thing. I belive the width is 102".
