If your truck was going to sit in the driveway/garage more than get driven, which would be better - big block gas or dizzle? Ive got my choice right now, just looking for edumacated opinions..

My diesel sits in the driveway 99% of the time, but I love having it for when I need it. What are your plans with the truck? How much will you tow?

I drive a gasser truck every day, but I hate it....its too small, and I want the power and mileage of a diesel every day, so I will be doing another truck build in a year or so (after I pay a few toys off first).

Big camper, car hauler, groceries, the normal stuff...

** O how much as in how often? ** probably 25% of the time it is being driven it will be towing big. Other than that it will carry dirt bikes, dirt, parts, and random stuff.

Well I aint gonna lie it will be sitting a lot. Maybe every other weekend in the summer, maybe a little more often...

Im actually looking at 99-02 super dutys - thats my main question, v10 or PSD. I wouldnt mind an 00-02 chevy HD but their prices are still a little high. Must be a crew cab, must be a 4x4. Thats why theres no dodge there, no crew cab in the price range... It will probably be staying stock no matter what it is. I dont like making more work for myself then necessary.

The 7.3 is a good strong motor that will last forever. I know you said it will stay stock, but if you ever decide to do some power modifications to it...it can be a powerhouse. The transmission will be a weak spot of you do start pushing a lot of HP, but in stock form...it wont give you a problem at all. I know a lot of guys with V-10's and they all love them, but I would never own one myself, the diesel gets better mileage unlaoded or loaded, has more power, and will last longer...plus higher resale later on. The only downside is maintenance costs and the higher price of fuel.

My last 5 trucks were GM gassers and I have towed an ever increasing amount of weight with each of them. I now have a 05 Powerstroke, and now that all of the updates have been done, I will never tow with anything else! 10,000 pounds does not even faze it. My 2500 gasser struggled mightily, felt like the tail wagging the dog when I was fully loaded with trailer and cargo.

x a billion on the diesel, you wont regret it.

I am an avid fan of the cummins though (even though I dont like the wrapper so much). I do like the PSD's (my dad and quite a few friends have them) but for towing you cant beat a cummins...and as far as DD'ing it, empty on the highway cruising at 65 with a feather foot, I will get 21.5 MPG...that is with 4.11 gears and a tonneau cover and 100% highway driving (fill up and get on the highway till the next fill up)

now, I dont know how far you are willing to drive, but just the other day I saw an 02 PSD outside Traverse City on 31 for 12K....it was a crew cab short box. Didnt stop and look at it, but it looked pretty solid.

there are some screamin deals out there right now, you just have to look for them. I made the switch back in Feb, and I will NEVER look back....DIESEL all the way!

well thats a little out of my range still too. The only reason Im looking at one of these trucks is Ive been seeing them on like craigslist for around $10k with not much more than 100k miles. Im guessing its gas prices causing it... Since this truck is a non-essential for me (and 5 years ago these would have been $20-25k trucks even at 8-10 years old) I really didnt think Id be able to afford one until now.

great truck you will not be disapointed.

I have owned a 99.5 Super duty with a V10, pretty good power, but a terrible gas hog. mixed driving I would get 10-11mpg, towing 7K 6-7.5mpg. I also owned a 05 F250 pstroke, great power averaged 13-14.5 mix driving...but getting into throttle a lot:teehee: I now own a 05 Duramax, and I hate to say it....Im a ford guy all the way but its been a great fuel mileage and power truck. I averaged 18.5mpg coming back from silver lake, and typically average 15-16mpg city driving. If you can afford a diesel I say go for it you will be happy you did. And if you cant afford the upfront increase in cost of a diesel, it will make up later on due to diesel trucks resale being considerably more then gassers.....good luck:thumb:

Ive got such wood. Shit pictures - pitch dark and raining but I dun care. Heres my new Kentucky limousine :hack: :hacksaw:

2000, 118k miles PSD auto XLT, the guy maintained better than I could ever hope for. Monitored the coolant, trans fluid every 35k, stanadyne or power service, Rotella 5-40 synthetic, etc, etc. No rust anywhere, everything works, clean interior :woot:

now that the title transfer is complete I dont mind telling how much I paid. Got it for $8500. I have no doubt that 2 years ago this would have been a $16-$20k truck. Just a sign of the times I guess. People on craigslist with these trucks listed for $10-$11k are sitting on them, and if they owe $10-$12k they're begging you to come look at their truck. I even got a dealer down to ~$11k for a 2001 2500HD crew 4x4 chevy with 70k miles (gasser) that was MINT condition before I found this.

The more I drive this thing the more I dont think theres any timebombs ready to go off in it. Its just a nice truck for a great price

Im down under 1/4 tank of fuel right now, headed for a fillup tonight. Wish me luck :beerbang:

fuels not cheap for these trucks. used mine this weekend for work and the company paid for the tab. the only reason i ran it to the u.p this weekend. 145 to fill it up. thats my duramax. but i love it to death. do an intake and some kind of programmer and it will be night and day difference! you will think your in a damn race car! exhaust adds alot of power to for what it is. better mileage as well.
