I have a SB 350 in my jeep wrangler it has a three wire alternator on it and I have everything wired simple it has push button start its just a trail rig. But I can not figure out how to wire up my alternator so it will charge. If anyone has any info that would be awesome. Thanks
you can loop the big red wire back to the battery. the "tickle" wire (brown) has to be switched trough a bulb(acts as a resistor) it then goes to ground.
larger connection (stud) goes to battery pos, also loop the spade terminal labeled "2" back to that stud (it basically senses battery voltage and adjusts the output accordingly) the spade terminal labeled "1" goes to a bulb in the dash, and then to a key switched (or off your toggle switch, in your case) positive source...this is used to excite the alternator and start it charging...a positive signal goes through the bulb and to the alt, and also, if the alt is not charging, that terminal switches to a ground, and lights the bulb for your charge indicator...the bulb also acts as a resistor to isolate the alt from the ignition system, so if you left the bulb out, you could run into problems where the engine does not shut off (charge voltage backfeeding to ignition system) or if you tried hooking it direct, without the bulb or with no way of switching that off, it could cause excessive loads on the engine during cranking (alt trying to charge when not turning) or a constant drain on the battery
