I am once again re-building my truck. I had a pretty good combo last year that performed quite well. It did however have its weaknesses and areas that needed improvement. Instead of just fixing the few things I decided to start from ground zero again and use my 79 F-250 frame and power train as a platform instead of the weak ranger frame. I will be moving to 42" TSL's on H1's, Dana 60 Front w/ 5:13 and detroit locker, Dana 80 rear w/ 5:13 and detroit, 460 CI BBF, built C6 manual, and np205.

I am hoping to have this done by April/May 2010.

These are some pics of the start of the project which meant a complete dis-assembly of the truck and scrapping out the unneeded parts.

Why would I want to get rid of my house's hood ornament??? I think it has grown roots.:sonicjay::sonicjay:

Thanks, I am down to the wire now. I need it done by next Friday, I really need to run it instead of staring at it all dusty and incomplete. It needs some fresh dirt on it.

On a side note I already have a small issue - I had a friend over a bit ago to check the truck out and decided to drive it out of the cave turn it around in the yard and drive it back into the garage. Simple enough right? Not quite, I get out in the yard a ways and start making my turn and all he sudden I am no longer moving and something is grinding pretty bad. My first thought was the pump in the tranny was bad again, but I still have great pressure only gauge. I mess with the t-case shifters and it stars to move again and isn't grinding, which is strange because the grinding seemed to be more towards the front of he truck not right under neath me. Another few feet ant it isn't moving again and the noise is back WTF!! Just as I jump out to see what the he'll is going on my buddy tells me the front shaft is spinning but I am not moving, which doesn't make sense because both hubs are locked in, I looked at the drivers hub and notice it has unlocked on it's own, great. I lock it back in and figure that I must have forgotten to engage the passenger side hub. The noise is gone and I am back moving again so I pull it back in the garage and shut it off. I then look to see if I ever engaged the right side lockout, imagine my surprise when it is still fully engaged. FML

Moral of the story: My brand new milemarker SS hubs are broken. They have about 200 feet on them in a wide sweeping turn at idle on 28" rollers in grass on flat ground. Sucks but shouldn't be hard to get them warranteed since they guy that was at my house is the manager at the store I bought the hubs at.

It is finally near completion, aside from some cosmetic items it is basically done for this phase. The 460 really likes the propane over the carb setup, it has much better throttle response and seems to make more power (mostly due to better atomization and fuel/air mix). I have one issue that will need to be fixed in the future - In the video you will see a lot of white smoke after getting on the brakes hard, this is from the hydro boost dumping too much fluid back in to the reservoir at once and blowing power steering fluid past the cap. I will need to switch to a resi with a better cap that will withstand the flow/pressure of heavy braking.

(video quality isn't the best but you'll get the idea)

For Sure!! If you are still going to the Rodeo tomorrow, look for me. It's not a huge place and it will be the only one there like it:rock:

The propane set-up so far has worked flawlessly. I will need to add a oil pressure safety switch to cut the power to the ignition if the pickup should come out of the oil in the pan. Typically with a carb this wouldn't be an issue since the oil pickup will work on much steeper angles than a carb will, since propane doesn't care about angles I need to safeguard against potential engine damage.

There are some fine tuning items that need attending to, but nothing major.

Re-locate P/S reservoir closer to the pump
- this was causing some rather interesting moments on saturday, funny thing about full hydro - when the pump cavitates your wheels return to center on their own.

Add bigger P/S cooler
-the all in one cooler, filter, and resi is not quite up to the task of keeping the oil at a decent temp.

Tender Coils on springs

Remove mangled hood and broken windshield
- somewhere along the way home saturday the hood latch failed causing the hood to turn into an "s" and shattering the windshield.

New P/S reservoir, all pressure tested and ready for mounting and plumbing. It holds just under 2 quarts, has all the ports I need without piggy-backing anything, and the cap won't pop off anymore when I use the brakes.

C6 with many upgrades including FM reverse valve body.

Those mufflers wont last long if you wheel it ..............And for gods sake paint that thing.
Mufflers are already pretty beat up, I am looking at some Magnaflow round canister style to replace the ones that are on it. Just too cheap to spend money on something that works but isn't ideal.

It is painted, its that all natural self applying paint. Trying to stay as green as possible, propane and a paint job from mother nature her self. What more do you want?? Not a good enough reason?? Then how about this - couldn't paint it before since I was still doing welding and what not, by the time I got the welding done it was already rusty. I am too damn lazy right now to spend the time cleaning it for paint. Not to mention it it WAY too humid for me to be able to paint it with the set-up/options I currently have.

You're starting with about the same parts I did. Sounds like you have a nice build planned, Its all about long nights and frustration till the finish.

Thanks

Yes, it is definitely the camera playing tricks. I have never measured the vertical edge but it has to be at/over 5' tall, it is a decent amount taller than the 42" tires.

so? over all, what do ya think of it?

anything need tweaking?

are you happy with your spring rates?

looks like it did friggin awesome!

next time you go and you have an extra seat gimme a holla.

i so have done rig envy. :sonicjay:

Spring rates are working good, I need more time in the seat and more video to see how it really works. So far the ride is pretty good, could be better but I don't feel like changing the valving right now, things are still getting broke in.

I made new transmission cooler hoses, bit the bullet and went with AN fittings. Finally added the tender coils to the rear and clearanced the rear transfer case yoke a bit, I am now using all 16" of shock travel front and rear.

I still need to get the exhaust inside the frame, the passenger side is basically destroyed. I also found out the hard way that I need sliders at the rocker panels, I had a stump get wedged between the back of the cab and the drivers rear tire - had to winch out of that one. There are other little winter upgrades and what-not as well but nothing major.

I most likely won't be going anywhere again this year, need to work more and save money to have it ready for next spring. I will let you know as soon as the first trip gets planned and the seat will be yours (unless the wife wants to go).
