2008 Chevy Impala (EVAP large leak detected) HELP!!!!

Car info: 2008 6cy 3.9L with 115,000 miles. Car runs fine, the only thing I have noticed is that my remote start wont work anymore. I can hear the fuel pump kick on but it wont turn over after that.

Anyway the check engine light came on so I took it to autozone to put the computer on it. This is what it said "EVAP large leak detected" and these could be the causes:

1. Defective missing or loose fuel cap. (When the check engine light came on I got a signal on my dash that said loose fuel cap. I made sure it was tight but the light is still on.)

2. EVAP canister broke, hose cracked or not connected

3. Purge or vent solenoid defective

4. Vacuum leak at engine.

Any help on what I should check or look for would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Chris

is the remote start with the CEL a GM thing or a special way it is wired? my Ram will still remote start fine with the CEL.

hell sometimes the remote start will throw a mis-fire code as well.

did you happen to fuel up with the engine running? that will throw this code as well.

check the filler neck for corrosion, also check the o-ring on the gasket for a crack, split, or something along those lines to prevent a good seal.

or you could just replace the gas cap and remove the code, if that doesnt work try replacing the purge solenoid.

otherwise if you can find a vacuum leak or see a crack hose or evap canister, the mechanic will have to fill the system with smoke and look for the leak that way.

no you will have to clear the code with the scanner.

Autozone wont clear the codes anymore (atleast they were told by upper management not to) but they can hand over the scanner to you for you to do it. some will some wont, i was at a store on Westnedge in Portage and they wouldnt do it. I had to rent the scanner and do it myself in the parking lot and bring it back inside to return the scanner.
