Just wanting to know what everyone thinks about the goodyear mtr's. How do they do offroad? I figure they would be decent on road tires but am wondering about offroad. Reason i ask is that i am looking at a set of 37's but want to know how they will perform first.
I have 255/70's on my stock grand cherokee and they seem to be pretty great. I have never had any problems yet and have seemed to wear supprisingly well too driving 60 miles a day. Never been stuck due to loss of traction either :woot: My friend has 35's on his xj and he likes em too.
They work good on my AMG. Just put a new set on within the last year or so. Never had a traction problem on or off road, they seem do good on rocks and very good in the snow. Long wearing tire if you keep them rotated.
On my second set now. 45,000 miles out of my last set with rotating them every other oil change. As for proformance: Sand......good, Mud........ok, wet traction.......fair.
I ran 35's on the CJ for the last 4 years, and I really liked them, but I usually have been avoiding mud. I got rid of the CJ, but would consider getting them again on the next rig.
Well it will be driven on the road some and also be a trail rig. I am starting to stay away from the mud and all cuz i just hate cleaning up afterwards. So all in all they are a decent tire?
if your getting a good deal on them sure, but i was paying 220 a tire and that was the tireshops cost (my brother works for one) i just switched my back tires to procomp m/t's which were like 25 bucks cheaper. i have mtrs on front and procomps on back, both air down really similar, ride similar, noise similar, but the comps clean out better. even if you "avoid" the mud, your still going up slick hills and such and the tires just done clean out like a good mud terrain. a little bit of clay and you have to use a screwdriver, or spin em up to about 35mph to get them to clean.
if you like the MTR then check out the Cooper STT's. Extremely similar tread and basically the same sidewall strength and a few bucks cheaper then the MTRs
STT is a lot better tire then the MTR IMO it is a little softer compound then the MTR but they worked good in mud and sand also. and as Cheapthrillb2 said they are a few bucks cheaper too.
I have Cooper STT's on my DD XJ and love them. My Dad chewed thru his first set of OEM MTR's on his 06 Rubicon after only 27,000 miles, street driven and rotated and balanced regularly. They cupped real bad, to the point where they made a terrible noise on the road. He didn't like them in the snow and ice either. Went with BFG MT's this time around.
I had a set of 31's and I loved them. As others have said, wore amazingly well.
