My buddy got an MIP...

He got an MIP 10 minutes before his 21st birthday. He's really stressing about it and was wondering what he should expect. I said depending on the judge it's going to be dismissed most likely, but he really wants to know. The actual ticket was written at 23:50 so, what do you all think?

Worse that can happen is some probation and some fines, right? He's never got in trouble before and I think they'll just void it.

All depends upon the jurisdiction the ticket was wrote in...

My buddy got an MIP 1 day before his 21st for having a closed case of beer in the trunk of his car, and he's never been in any kind of trouble at all prior to this - they gave him probation, fines, and an alcohol assessment class.....and he didn't even have alcohol in him (total bullshit IMO).

So, given that other people have gotten a lot less, I'd say jurisdiction is going to be the deciding factor.....

I'll agree on the jurisdiction. My sister got one in Lansing and it was the night in jail, hefty fine, community service, alcohol awareness class. The full nine. At least she got to throw up on the cop though. :beerbang:

What did he do to get pulled over? I imagine they had to have a pretty good reason to pull him over and do a search. Don't they have to have reason and/or permission for a search and seizure?

I got my 2nd MIP 10 days before my 21st.

If it is his first its really not something that should end up being a big deal. Probably a Fine and Probation.

On my 2nd I got one year probation stay clean and they wiped it off my record. But in Michigan at the time if you got a second they did take your driver's license away for 30 or 90 days, I can't remember.

I had 3 of them and on the 3rd I had to take a youth alcohol rehabilitation class.

I was never given probation...just fines.
I had to take one, and I only got 1 MIP.

There were some hot, alcoholic chicks in there though, it wasn't so bad. :thumb:

I was just in BR court house a week or so ago for some beer related charges. Kids pleading guilty for 1st offense were getting charged about 200 bucks, 2nd offense 300 somthing...Didn't hear any 3rd offenders.

And in BR almost all beer related charges you have to do an alcohol assesment class/test then determine if you need AA or breathilyzer in your car, which I'm hoping I don't get.

MIP's are nothing to worry about.

BTW My BR cop was friendly too, ripped my leatherman off my belt tearing the holder to shit and then got mad at me for asking him to repeat what he was saying because I couldn't hear him. Yet on the report he wrote down I didn't cause any issues and was helpful in every way.

Fuck that town.

i got an MIP in farmington hills 7 months before my 21st. I got fines (around 2k dollars), had to appear in court 3 times (one time was due a parent wasn't with me?? I figured since i was over 18 it didn't matter??), 3 days community service which sucked lol, had to attend a Mothers Against drunk Driving class, Had to take an alch awarness type class, had to call in every morning to ADAMS and if my number was called, I had X amount of time to report that morning and pay $5 to take a brethalizer test. That $5 added up quick

I got 1 when I was 19 and again another one when I was 20. The first one I had to pay $325 in fines, 25 hrs community service, 3 months probation, and a 8 hr alcohol class. I just got off probation for the first one, like a week later I got the second one, with was $550 in fines, 1 year probation(ended up being like 5 months), I had to go to a weekend at rehab with all guys, 50 hrs community service, and I lost my licence for a month, and restricted for 2, and I had to pay $125 bucks to get it back.

All and all its all depends on where you get introuble at. I got mine upnorth in Ostego county. They are assholes up there about it. Both times had nothing to do with a car, I was just at the wrong house party at the wrong time. The second time I was screwing a girl in the upstairs bathroom and the cop kicked open the door on me after I told him to go away.:sonicjay: If I had to go out, thats they way I wanted it to happen. Bad news is I didnt get to finish.:sonicjay: But just so your buddy knows, any other time he get a alcohol or drug related offences in his life they will look back and say he has a history of abuse and use it against him.
