Hey I have a 79 ford bronco. My 351m has crapped out on me. I found and bought an efi 460 out of and 89 F-250 4x4 with an electronic overdrive transmission in it. I would love to put this motor in my bronco. I would like to keep it fuel injected. I have heard that if i keep it fuel injected I have to use the electronic transmission. Does anybody know if this is true. Thank you.

dunno.

I do know you can build a very heavytruck by stacking a 460/C6 in the front of a short wheel base truck. tthe idea is good, but you have to have the suspension to back it up. 460 is 690lbs by its self. C6 is around 250lbs full of fluid. if you have a 351m they fall in around 540lbs so if you can make it light, it will help the short wheel base and the cost of moding your suspension to handle weight.

I think I have the suspension to back it that shouldn't be to big of a problem. I have a six inch suspension lift with two struts and one coil. The front of the truck sits up a little higher than the rear now. I don't mind having a big heavy truck. I m just wondering about the electronic aspect with the Efi.

You don't even need the kickdown cable if you don't want it. The c6 reads vacuum to sense the load on the engine. The only downfall of no kickdown is when you stomp the pedal to pass on the road it doesn't drop down and come to life. I have been running without a kickdown on my 79 f350 with a carb'd 466 and have had no problems at all with drivability whatsoever.

The only thing you will need is a good source on manifold vacuum and an adjustable modulator to correct the possible difference in vacuum strength from carb to efi. Any new modulator you buy from the local parts depot should be an adjustable type.

My buddy swapped a 89 efi 460 into his 79 Supercab. What a mess. The engine harness goes thru the dash because of the trans wiring so we had to cut and splice tons of wires to get the harness down to a bare minimum. He used a AOD with a UltraBell to bolt up to the BB,had a few converter issues along the way. Wiring the fuel pumps to still work off a switch to retain his dual tanks was another pita.

In the end it turned out pretty good just lots of hair pullin to get right. Gets pretty MPG and makes a good tow rig for his drag car.

I believe at one point he wanted to just slap a carb on it also but I dont think there is a carbed intake out there that will work with the efi BBF heads.
