Hiking Boots

My mother is dead set on getting me a new pair of hiking boots for Christmas after I made a comment about the sole's being worn down to nothing on my old boots.

I do a lot of day hikes/geocaching so a good set of boots is a must. I've had a pair of these for about 7 years now, and I love them, but they are a bit heavy.

Any recommendations?

Really?

When I backpacked the Smoky Mountains a couple years ago I got a pair of chameleons the day before we went out. They recommend doing like 20 miles to "break them in" but I wore wore then right out of the box and up the mountain. The most comfortable boots EVER. I did 27 miles in 3 days with them on with NO complaints. I wear then year round and they have enough ventilation where my feet don't get sweaty, but warm enough where I can wear them in the coldest weather with a pair of normal white socks and be warm as shit. I even crossed a few rivers in them and when tight enough they remained completely dry.

I've had them for 2-3 years now and wear them almost every day. The back part of the heel is just now beginning to show some wear.

They are a bit pricey if you buy them in store, but I got mine online for about half the price I saw in stores.

I don't know a lot about boots, but I have had my Danner's for somewhere in the neighborhood of 13 yrs. and they have been a great boot. They're lightweight and all I have had to do is oil them a few times.

Danner

DANNER is the only boot I buy. and I only buy the american made ones. All the american made DANNER'S have a stich down sole, and can be replaced.
most of the USA made DANNER'S have a little american flag stiched into them.
I have two pairs of DANNER'S that are on their 3rd sole. they start @ about $200 and go up from there but are worth every penny.
