Last week while pre-running for Gitchee Gumee, GLFWDA was invited out to check out some private land by the owner. She has 122 acres of absolutely awesome Canadian property! It has mud holes, steep up hill dirt hills with rocks and rock courses. She currently has about 15 different trails and from what little we saw, on a scale of 1-5, the difficulty ranges from 3 to 5+. There are rock challenges that will push the limit of any vehicle including buggies.

Her goal is to turn this into a park type setting. The current setup is $10 per day per vehicle and you have to sign a liability waiver. The property is roughly 20-30 minutes outside of Sault St Marie Canada.

This is the same property the Loonie Run is run on.

If you are interested in checking it out, contact Charlene at 705-781-2201.

Recognize that this is a start up venture and is currently very primitive.

Ironman will be posting pics of this soon.

So what you are saying is that you will offer us guided trips on 120 acres?
And for those of us that live in lower Michigan who have wheeled lots of other places, this is the only place I can learn to wheel along with your expertise?

Pray tell, how much will this expertise and enlightening experience cost me?

Whiterhino- seeing as you appear to be king wheeler, this offering isn't for you or up your ally. Since you want to be an ass about it, then leave it alone for those that COULD use the help and experience to further their wheeling abilities. At no point was it stated that " this is the only place I can learn to wheel along with your expertise?" Not everyone has your natural born master wheeling skills to conquer 4+ rated trails and ascend hills and rock faces others would run away crying from. And seeing as you have OBVIOUSLY wheeled up Ridge Run without winching, made it through the toughest lines on Rock and Roll, and climbed to the very top of the run starting at the Stairway to Hell without anyones help........then go ahead and keep yourself on your pedestal and forget the other less talented wheelers out here.

There are a lot of people out there that have no clue how to tackle this kind of terrain without destroying their equipment. There are a lot of wheelers that don't know how to pick out a good line on 100 ft of boulders. And more than anything else, there's lot's of wheelers out there that are afraid to take that next step to further their abilities due to assholes who will make fun of them instead of helping them learn what to do to succeed. If you don't need that, then go by yourself. If someone wants someone to help guide them into places and trails they would have never thought of trying themselves, then this if for them.

Whiterhino: If something doesn't apply to you, then let it be and don't knock it just because you feel you are better than what it offers. Just by your comments here I'm certain that you have offended some and turned others away from doing such a weekend that could be the time of their lives and a great experience. Way to be considerate of others....

In WhiteRhinos defense (not that he really needs any....he is quite capable of taking care of himself).....he was just poking fun.

And for the record, there are a bunch of people here (Ironman, WhiteRhino, 95Geo, etc.) that all feel the EXACT same way that you do about helping newbies learn how to wheel! Heck....I'm no "master wheeler", but helping others learn technique and what their rig will do is one of my favorite things about wheeling!!!

The difference is.....none of us will charge anyone for that "expertise". They are welcome to wheel with us any time! If you want to charge for your expertise, I don't think anyone will fault you for that (I'm certainly not).

I think WR was just poking a little fun, and implying that he managed to learn what he knows without paying someone else to teach him. If that's NOT what he meant, I'm sure he'll clarify it for all of us!

Bottom line: Wheel on!!! Take your buddies, paying customers, whatever! Just get out and enjoy the sport!!

Oh, forgot to mention that things like this help keep people coming to places like this, bringing money to the owners, helping keep places like this available for EVERYONE to come wheel. I pitch in some extra cash beyond the daily fees to the owners when doing these weekend packages in thanks for their hospitality.

Wow Grizzy, I kind of figured this statement from you was pretty friggin arrogant right off the get go:

"For all you flatlander web wheelers with everything from the Poison Spyder catalog and high pinion custom D60s bolted to your TJ..... "

and this one:

"is really suppose to work on something other than pot holes and expansion joints on Van **** or I-75,"

and this one: (what the hell does where anyone live have to do with their experience?

"Now I have talked to many from the lower half of the state and noticed a "fear and apprehension""

The above statements made you pretty much come across as the god of wheeling. I just asked what it costs. Regarding me and my rig, I've wheeled a few places over the past 32 years that I've been wheeling. I have also introduced more people than you would care to imagine to wheeling and sure, there are those that probably don't like me but ask around and see how many will tell you that I belittle anyone with statements like you just made. If you have wheeled Charlene's as much as you say, then you probably know Steve Hanna. Ask him about me. Have I wheeled at Charlene's? I was at the Loonie run this year for about an hour. Folks standing around drinking beer & wheeling at the same time isn't my cup of tea.

By the way, did you happen to notice who started this thread?

T-Way: I couldn't agree more. No one NEEDS someone to teach them anything about wheeling. No one needs to pay for it either. These weekend packages were opened up for those that don't want to compete for position during Loonie Run when there are dozens of rigs all over the place. Like someone mentioned earlier, small groups of capable rigs. Someone would look at being with 4-8 other rigs on one of these weekends. This allows plenty of one on one time, as well as no worries of holding up others. It also allows for time to focus on what other people are doing and learning from that.

I won't deny that you could do all this on your own. I just took the time to organize the hassle of figuring out some of the other parts of a trip like that(i.e. rooms, directions, contacts, some food, knowing where to go.......blah blah blah)

Whiterhino: Of course I know Steve H. He is a living legend up here in the north country. Seeing as we are both veteran wheelers there is no reason for us to be battling words. As for some of the comment made, you know who I am referring too. You obviously wheel your rig, so it doesn't apply to you. But you, as well as I, have seen and met plenty of people that have what I described and their rig never sees anything more than a two track. And people displaying fear of hardcore wheeling wasn't a dig, it was an observation I have seen over and over throughout the years. I was actually very surprised by the way people would shy away and pull back for the ideas of wheeling terrain like Charlene's property. To be honest, it amazed me. Now I know not everyone wants to wheel that kind of terrain, but you'd think someone with a Jeep sitting on D60 and 38" or 40" tires would want to do more with their rig than run up and down the dunes or roam around two tracks that never change elevation more than 100 ft.

I did take note that you started this thread and thought it was great that someone else was helping to promote that area. What do you say instead of duking it out on the web, we get together and wheel the hell out of Charlene's property this fall and have a great time doing it? I'm a lover(of wheelin), not a fighter. There's no point in two people who love doing the same things to be at odds.

Please clean this up, I have wheeled for 18 yrs and this is hands down the most chalanging place I have been. I have done the mounds and dunes and every trial at the badland and paragon and some cool trails in kentucky but this is the best by far. Guided or not it is fun, I ran 38.5 boggers locked and still had to winch, almost rolled and had some trials no one in our group made under there own power, The people up there are great but a small group of well setup rigs that go there on a trailer is the best way.

WR- I just noticed your comment about the drinking at Loonie. I can't apologize for that, but it appears you got hooked up with the "wrong" group while on the trails. I have a really good idea which group that is and many aren't people I associate with very often. As far as I know, that isn't suppose to be happening........but you know how that goes with that many people. I know the group I wheel with(northern locals and Canadian locals) tend to keep the alchy off the trails. You wouldn't see that kind of activity with us. Knowing the property, you'd likely agree that you need to have 100% focus on a lot of these trails.

BAck to what this thread is about...........

Funny, this kinda looks like a beer, on the trails.....

I mean maybe its just me.....

I personally don't care about the alcohol on the trails if people know how to act right, but I certainly wouldnt say I was against it and then post a pic with a beer on the trails....
