I have been contemplating the idea for a long time about getting a new 6.4L. I want to hear from some of you that have one. Some of the aftermarket tuners are making some huge HP out of them 608RWHP.....1200Ft/lb of torque by just tuning and removing dpf:rock:

I purchased one for my work and it is a great truck, however we had it in the shop all ready because of a "hiccup" during idle, but that is fixed. We will not make any performance mods but it is a strong runner.

I'm running a bone stock 08 crew cab dually around for work, with a total vehicle weight of just over 12,000 lbs (weight box and bead bags in the bed). Drove to Flint and back last night and got 14 mpg with a regen in the middle. Not great, but not terrible. It rides like a caddy though... handles the weight llike nothing.

That is pretty good mpg. I know regen burns a lot of fuel with those trucks.

I towed a waggy through Ohio and got 10.3 mpg with cruise set at 65 mph in tow/haul mode with gentle acceleration. With a Fiero on the trailer coming back the same roads at the same speeds, I got 15.4 mpg.

The 6.4 isn't bad, but if I were ever to buy a new truck I would probably wait for the 4.4-liter diesel to see what kind of mpgs it pulls. My understanding of the new diesel is it will be tuned for mpg, not big power like the 6.4. I don't need a lot of power, my IDI is actually fine, I would like a new truck with IDI-like mileage. I'm afraid that's not possible with the new emissions regs. Not to mention how much all those emissions regs cost.

The new 6.4's are great engines. I have had mine since Feb of 07 and haven't had a single issue. I have the Spartan tuner, 4" exhaust from the downpipe back, and CAI. These trucks are capable of 600+ HP and over 1,100 lb/torque with minimal mods. After this it runs out of fuel and air. I would get another in a heartbeat, tuned they are a blast to drive.
