I bought this 86 4runner in feb 2008 and never did a build thread for it. So here it is when I bought it.

I started the same way most do ,add a bunch of bolt on stuff :sonicjay:

I added a bumper and winch, a soft top sliders and some super sweet dick cepek dc1 's with pro comp 31" tires. It looks gay now to me but I thought it was cool then:sonicjay:

I wheeled it like this for a little while then I thought ,I will improve it by.........wait for it. Bigger tires!:sonicjay: Yep 35" boggers. There is nothing a tired 280k 22re engine would like more than a set of boggers.

They actually worked pretty good and I kept them for a bit. I found some more $ and added some dual cases with a twinstick and a hand throttle for the technical stuff. I love this mod!

I wanted to make it perform better and decided not to worry about the streetablity as much so I did a solid axle swap and longer rear springs. And some 30 spline cryo axles in place of the stock birfields.

I rocked it like this for a while. It wheeled well off road and was surprising on road.

It had it's limitations :sonicjay:

I did 5.29 gears and a spool in the rear . That was a huge difference. Then I wanted bigger tires and something that wont dig as much so...... I got these.
Some 39.5 Pitbull Rockers and some Trailworthy Fab beadlocks

I cut the living crap out of the fenders and firewall to clear these. I also took off the gay fender flares. I bent some tubing to protect the sides and welded them on . I also needed some support for my huge penor stinger ,so it doesn't flex when I'm hanging off it for the stinger sexy pics:sonicjay: so i welded some tubes to the frame for it also.

I added some onboard air useing my air conditioning compresser.

I wanted something different than the tube doors so I thought why not cut up your perfect factory doors with power windows. So I did.

All done

They turned out nice , and my hair can blow in the wind on those nice summer nights.:thumb:

Then it rained, and I am delicate so I took the cut out section and made some inserts with snap in windows .

I am very happy with what my truck does offroad now except I was sick of dargging it's ass over every obstacle. So I bobbed the back 12" it was a major pain but well worth it in departure angles. And I was able to fix my shackle angle since I had to move the shackles to clear the tailgate .

The start

no turning back now

almost done

done

opening tailgate too!

before

after

It wheels so much better now!

Well that's about all for now. I am going to do a hydro assist and lunchbox lock sometime soon . I have a 4.3 vortec engine to install too . I just need some time and $ for both .

Dam that's clean.....little tall for my tastes but still very nice.

Make sure you upgrade the knuckle studs.....at this point its not if but when your gonna rip the knuckle off. Hub studs too. There are pics of all the upgrades i did on mine in my build thread.....any questions on that or the assist i can try to share what i have learned along the way.

I did the arp magnum studs on the steering arms and arp hub studs and the cryoed hub gears when I did the 40"s cause I knew what was coming:sonicjay: I am probably going to do the hydro assist next. And maybe the 6shooter knuckles. I really want a locker in the front but steering would be bad now, so I think hydro first. What hydro assist are you running?

I am not entirely sure since it was on the truck when i got it.

I believe it is from trail gear.....i put a cooler and bigger reservoir on it and it works pretty decent.....my only complaint is its a little slow.....99% you never notice it but i ran a comp at bundy hill and trying to dodge trees at speed it was entirely possibly to over drive the steering.

If i were starting with nothing i would go full hydro and never look back

Not too many spares other than stock stuff. I'm a throw away kind of guy not a keep it . Sorry Thanks on the compliment. It's funny that it turned out nice looking ,I just kept adding stuff and improving it and that's the result. I like being a little different and yota's are so bulletproof . 280 k miles and still doesnt burn or lose a drop of oil:rock:

I bought this sweet machine . Don't be jealous . I also got a tetanus shot ,so it's all good. This will be my donor for the 4.3 swap. It supposed to have a jasper reman engine with 40k on it ,trans is also a reman fairly recent. I won't be using anything but the engine, computer ,and harness.

The reason I bought it.

What is the piggyback box on the ECM?

I haven't done much to the runner in a while ,but this summer I wanted to do something . So I painted it eye rape green. It needed to be bright so here it is.

I then took it 12 hours later to Kenny Offroad and got it dirty ! I had a good time .

The paint made it perform soooo much better!

Matt was there in his awesome yota!

Broken in now!

I'm probably going to do the assist first . I have seen a few vids of the box mods , I think I can pull that off . We'll see.:(. I already have arp studs but I'm torn on the 5th stud mod and the 6shooter arm kit. Why do I need the trunnion eliminate kit ? Are they that bad with stock?

6 shooters are a waste imo....just weld on a tab to the high steer arm, then drill the knuckle and add a 1/2 grade 8 bolt. There are pics in my build thread. The trunion bearings are notorious for blowing apart....better to ditch them before they fail
