Im not much of a vehicle expert and i have a couple of questions about a vehicle i am looking at purchasing.
It's a 1991 Full size bronco, the owner put a 302 c.i.d in it in 2000, it has around 60,000 miles on it. He has done transmission work on it, new alternator, heater core, amd has a 2" body lift.
the onlt problem i see it that it has been sitting for around a year, what kind of problems would that give me? Ive heard that body lifts can mess things up a bit, any truth to that? any useful comments would be appreciated. thanks
:thumb: you can check the transfer case by pulling the front d shaft then putting it in 4 whell drive listen for bad noises, also grab the front out put and try and turn it to see if it went into 4 wheel drive, if the problem is blown up spiders in the front diff parts are easy to come by, i would just find a front third member with matching gears and swap the whole unit.
the 4x4 doesnt work, i believe he said it was a spider gear causing the problem. wasn't too sure about where the spiders gears were, i was told that if spider gear bad + no 4x4= new T case. could i pull a T-case of an older bronco and put it on?
Steer clear of this one!!! I know of a couple of guys that have Broncos that they are willing to sell. One is a BII that you had showed interest in before. He had it sold and the deal fell through. It is an 89 and you could get it for around a $1000.00. Got some rust but everthing works. Two sets of tires. The other guys has a couple of fullsize both 89s I think. Those would need a little wrenching. Give the guy a call on the BII before he re-posts it and tell him Mike sent you. His name is Dan 734 502-0074. If he doesn't answer leave a message stating who you are and your from Great Lakes. Good Luck!!!
Dude, they guy is blowing smoke up your ass in every category possible. Spider gears bad + no 4x4 DOES NOT = new T-case. Hell, I can't even see how bad spider gears would cause no 4x4 and someone even think the t-case needs to be replaced.
Simply put, if the spider gears are bad, they either have broken teeth or stripped splines. If they have stripped splines, expect the axle shafts to be stripped as well. In either case, there will be metal floating around in the diff. This will likely lead to failed pinion and carrier bearings, as well as possibly fubaring the Ring and pinion (depending on metal size....if spider gear teeth break its more than likely the R&P will get damaged by the large metal chunks floating around).
Additionally, no 4x4 can be caused by the T-Case motor or associated wiring/switches/ecu being bad. It can also be caused by a bad t-case.
Either way, as numerous people have said before, if it were me I'd steer very clear of this heep....the guy sounds crooked (or has no clue what he's talking about) and it sounds like a vehicle that you buy and sink tripple its cost into it to make it functional
I think a Full Size Bronco makes an awesome trail rig and you can't beat going topless in the summer(but I'm biased)...but you have to be a Ford man and prepared to do some wrenchin... They didn't intend for us to run these babies like we do..! :beerbang:
yeah. i really like full size broncos, my dad has owned quite a few. i know a little about Fords, mechanically, both my dad and grandpa worked @ wayne assembly and michigan truck. Bronco 2s make a decent trail rig because of their size. the only real down side is the small motor.
i have yet so see a BII with a 4.0. i read that the 2.9 has 140 hp or so? i knew a guy that put a 4.6 into his BII, he never wheeled it but it got up and gone pretty quick.
alright, went out and looked @ bronconut's friends bronco II. has 15x,xxx miles on the 2.9. started right up. has been sitting and brakes are spongy. has a small crack across the corner of windsheild. he just put new valve cover gaskets on, doesn't smoke. makes an odd squeaking sort of clicking noise, ticking lifter? something along the belt? he wants $850 for it. i have it arranged to buy today but i have been thinking that i will take it for another drive. i am strongly thinking about buying this, but dont know how serious of problems it may have. any suggestions?
When is it squeaking or clicking? If it does it while your driving it could be a u-joint. Lifters don't squeak. They would just make a ticking noise. Could be an idler pulley.
2.9 liters are known for a little lifter noise. The fact that you mention squeak leads me to believe it is an idler pulley/belt issue. How did you get him down to $850? Thats a pretty good deal.
i asked him for a price and thats what he told me. other than that noise it runs pretty good. if i was to purchase it i would put wider axles on to make it less prone to roll.
I wheel a BII for years. It had a small lift and bigger tires never rolled it. It was a blast on the trails and in the mud. I would have bought this one but I'm trying to get my 71 back on the road.
i would lift it a little, but main usage would be a DD for a while, then a wee bit o wheelin. probably just 31" tires so that i wouldnt send MPGs entirely down the tiolet.
alright, i am having some brake problem with my B2, me and a freinds drove out to E&M junkyard yesterday, and my front brakes locked up, and the hubs got hot. after we left there, they started loosening up, bad, i could hardly stop with the pedal to the floor, got it back to his house, fluid is fine, and the passenger hub was hot enough to burn his finger. when i was driving it home it felt like they starting locking back up. my hubs were free. could something be bad with a caliper?
theres a good possibilty, i had the same issue on my bronco after sitting for a couple years and then driving it again my front calipers started to freeze up on me, i replaced them and problem went away, good time to check/service your wheel bearings spindle bearings u joints etc if needed as long as you got it apart
going to get it up on jack stands after school today and take the front tires off. take a look at the calipers and all that good stuff. hopefully it wont be too hard of a fix.
Got it up on the jack stands in the garage, pulled the front brakes off, passenger caliper is fried, literally, pads had nothing left at all, taking the rotors to get them turned at murrays. one ring just in front of the rotor was really tight. i do not know if it suppose to be like that. ill see if i can get some pics up so i can show exactly what i am talking about.
i have somewhat of a stupid question, how do i get the bearing seals pressed into the rotors on top of the bearings. i am trying to get it all done today.
take a 4x4 block of wood and place on top of the seal . Pound down on the wood with hammer and make sure the seal goes in straight and in all the way. Put some grease on the seal along the rim.
