No particular rhyme or reason, a 99XJ build

Bought the jeep back in 07 came with a basic budget lift and some 32's.

I carved up the fenders and added some 33" TSL's drove it for a while.

It soon became oblivious I should add some tow points to the front so I built a bumper for it. Wheeled it some more and had fun but the short arm lift brought the suck so I went with a long arm kit from IronRock. Not that it's a bad kit but I now wish I had just built my own. Down the road perhaps.
pic with the lift and bumper.

The Jeep handled much better in the trails and on the road after the lift.

Then I started to get the itch for some bigger tires. I found a 79 d44 with 5.13s and a rear 9" with 5.13s. I removed the stock tubes on the d44 and I'm re-tubbing it with 3"od x .5" wall DOM. Picked up a set of 38.5 TSL's on re-centered h1 bead lock wheels.

I plan on moving the rear axle back 3-5" (see what looks best when I get there) in prep for this I relocated the gas tank.
I wanted to move mine up above the bottom of the frame rails but still mount from underneath.
First I made some room.

Then I bent some 1 5/8 tube and added some sheet metal

I removed the original gas tank mounts from the floor of the cut out section.

welded those to my tube frame for the tank

Added the mounts to hold the original straps

Ended up like this

finished up inside the jeep

Currently I'm adding a winch to the front bumper

then after Thanksgiving at the Mounds the axles, tires, rocker replacement with 2"x6" tube and cage will begin.

Striping the under coat off the frame can only be topped by removing the stock mounting brackets as worst part of the build process. Cut some more sheet metal out of the way and removed the stock spring hangers. Primed and ready the stiffeners to be welded in.

And since I was already making a mess I sanded the 9" down so I could start picking away at welding my truss from ruff stuff on.
