i took apart my rear suspension and when i removed the passenger spring i found that the center pin is shot. it needs to be replaced but im not sure how to get one quickly and easily.
what is special about a center pin? is there any reason i cant buy a grade 8 bolt and grind the head round just like a center pin and use that?
Buy them, or you can use a grade 8 fine thread socket head cap screw or a rounded bolt.
Always worth it to keep a couple extra in the tool bag.
I've always used fine thread grade 8 cap screws in a black oxide finish. Never broke any of them, but I use 3/8. I've seen a lot of 5/16 ones break on the trails over the years.
i would use 3/8 but the springs are not drilled for it. i think they have either 1/4" or 5/16 they are on a suzuki samurai so the springs are as short and narrow as they come.
i got them from AB spring, slapped a $100 down on the table to pay and the guy told me to just take 'em.
