Bought this big guy to pull my 7500lb travel trailer. Honestly starts decent an runs good.

Question1;:...previous owner put in a online fuel pump on a toggle switch and said to start it with pump on when cold then shut it off after it starts.... it does start good just odd and I'm curious to why the second pump?

Question 2: guy put stacks on it an there's always a light blue grey smoke coming out at idle . Or when slowing down.First thought was oil but no significant oil loss.

Truck has 250k on it...any regular or routine main thence I should do?

Thank u an sorry for new questions

first question sound like a priming pump, but why he added it ??? Maybe his fuel system had an air leak and would loose prime over night?

Second, "in general" blue smoke is oil, White is unburned diesel, black would be partially burnt fuel. I'm not too familiar with the 6.9, but my guess would be valve guides.

The 6.9 and 7.3 idi both had fairly common issues with fuel leaking back, you can add that pump as a fairly easy fix to the issue. As far as the smoke, I would guess the injection pump has been turned up. Little more fuel than it can burn at idle.
