WTF is it with the majority of these guys? Every damn place I work, there has to be at least one of them, and as soon as they see I drive a Duramax, they have to come over and start trashing on it right away.

I just started working a new place a week ago. Day #1 within 10 minutes of being there, this guys jumps on me and starts telling me how great is Megacab is. I just keep quiet. Then he starts telling me what a piece of shit my Duramax is. I keep quiet again. After 8 days of him telling everybody we go to lunch with what a problematic pile of shit my "rice-burning import engine" is, I finally call him out and ask him what specifically is so shitty about my truck.

Me: So what specifically is so shitty about my truck that makes you feel the need to trash on it every day?
Him: Well, uh, um, they have injector problems.
Me: Yes, the LB7 did. I told you that yesterday. What else.
Him: Well, um, my uncle works for a place that he said that his friend told him that all the Duramaxes have all these problems
Me: Name one.
Him: Well, I don't know specifically, so I'll have to look into it and get back to you.
Me: That's what I thought. You're such a hypocrite. You have no clue what you're talking about.
Him. It doesn't matter what a piece of shit your truck is, everybody knows Cummins are the best motors ever built. 6 in a row, built to tow! Pistons the size of coffee cans! Good for a million miles easy!
Me: Congratulations.
Him: I ordered my Smarty today. I can't wait to ROLL SOME COAL all over the place when it gets here. Its going to be AWESOME. I'm going to blow your ass away when we race. I know a good road not far from here we can race.
Me: I didn't realize we were racing. I never said my truck was fast. 14.1@ 93 MPH with a 80HP tune. I said that's not bad for a 7,000# truck. But okay, we can race it it will make you happy. How fast do you think your truck will be (its a stick shift ) with your Smarty cranked all the way up?
Him: Should be in the 11s easy.
Me: 11s, huh? I'll put $100 on that.
Him: That'll be the easiest $100 I ever made! You're going to get SMOKED in more ways that one!
Me: Okay, well you let me know when you want to line up. Should be like taking candy from a baby, right?
Him: Well even if your truck is faster, mine will out tow yours any day.
Me: How so?
Him: That's common knowledge. Everybody knows the Cummins will out tow anything on the road.
Me: Again, how so, specially.
Him: Mine has way more low end torque so I can tow a heavier load up steeper hills and use way less fuel than you.
Me: How much more torque and how much less fuel?
Him: More than double the torque, and that's on my stock tune. I bet I use half the fuel you do towing the same load.
Me: I'm sure it does. Congratulations again.
Him: By the way, I got 26 miles per gallon on a 7 hour road trip from Michigan to Kentucky driving 75 miles per hour the whole time. Let's see your import motor Duramax junk do that!!!!
Me: I just can't compete with that. Your truck is absolutely amazing. I'm so envious. Did you know that Duramaxes are made in Ohio?
Him: What?
Me: Yes, they are made in Moraine, Ohio.
Him: Doesn't matter, they were designed by Isuzu. Japanese junk!
Me: Its actually a partnership between GM and Isuzu. Isuzu and GM have been partners for years. Isuzu designed the architecture and GM designed the electronics. And last time I checked, the Japanese have a pretty damn good reputation about the engines they design.
Him: Rice burning JUNK!
Me: I'll ask again..... how specifically are they junk?
Him: Common knowledge man, everybody knows that.
Me: Ugh, I think we need to get back to work now. You can just walk. I wouldn't want you to have to ride in my junk again.

Sounds like a fucking idiot. Not all Cummins owners are like that, not by a long shot....it's just the idiots like that who seem to stand out. He probably also drives around with his tow mirrors flipped out all the time, right?
I owned a Cummins for 3 years(only sold it for something cheaper) and loved it, but I also like DMax and non-6.0 Powerstroke trucks. Every manufacturer has pros and cons with their trucks, and any of them will have problems here and there. It's a given. Anybody who tries to convince you otherwise is a moron, regardless of what make and model they drive.

For the record, there are 2 Duramax owners within a mile of my house who constantly do all the obnoxious "Cummins stereotype" driving habits. Some people are just idiots.

Maybe i misread that but you would rather work on a duramax than a cummins? Your nuts.

I like the Chevy's alot more than my Dodge....if i had the money to pay someone else to fix it when it broke i would own one. But, since i am stuck fixing my own stuff, i own a cummins. They are so dirt simple and easy to work on if the need arises....parts are cheaper too.

As for the jackass the op is referencing....its not just cummins guys, you can find idiots like that nut swinging from any of the brands

It's not just Cummins owners. (I am one, and one of mine is even "riced out") It's pretty much any diesel owner who just got their first one, or has rockstar rims. Lately I've met more and more Duramax drivers fitting this bill. Best I can tell, ******** drive Cummins and Fords, and flat billers drive Duramaxes.

It's the same as snowmobiles. Arctic Cat's are for flat billers, and are required to hit the trail (enroute to the bar) with green headlight covers, matching outfits, color matched grips and grab bars, 244 dominators, and D&D pipes. Don't forget unhooking or loosening the front limiter strap.

Over the years I have noticed that next to corvette lovers mopar guys are the most brand loyal idiots out there. They liked the mopar muscle cars of the sixties and seventees and still stand on the reputation of a hemi that chrysler hasnt made in 35+ years.
I have a good freind with a 08 cummins and it is the biggest piece of shit I have ever seen. It has been in the dealer more times then any car I know of in my 30+ years of working on cars.
Just a couple problems of the top of ny head
The transmission has been gone through twice
One new transfercase
Rebuilt frontend including steeering box twice, still eats front tires
The inside of the hood is rotted out, the rockers are rusting, the cab corners are rusting.

This is a 5yr old truck with way less then 100,000 miles on it, all repairs are at the dealer under warrentee.

Once in awhile my freind will admit what a piece of shit it is (when he is way drunk)
Most of the time he will tell you how awsume dodge is and he just bought his wife a 09 with a hemi. I Cant wait untill it starts falling apart.

The motor is the only thing they brag about because everything else is made by mopar, and is junk.

:blah: Why does there have to be a jean-e-us like you in every truck related thread? Oh you know a guy who has a vehicle that's got a lot of problems? That whole brand must be junk. Idiot. Great, I know people with Ford and GM trucks who've had more problems out of 1 vehicle than both my Dodges combined with my Jeeps. Does that mean Fords and GMs are junk? Nope. Vehicles have problems, and unfortunately some vehicles (of any brand) have lots of them. Your cousin's friend's neighbor's dog's veterinarian's ex-wife's boyfriend's transfer case leaked? Then I guess Mopar sucks!!! Better hurry up and scrap that Jeep in your avatar, it's a Mopar piece of shit.

I'm not even sticking up for Mopar specifically(hell, my new truck is a Chevy), I'm putting down moronic, generalizing, ignorant people.:finger:

To the OP, stock clutch I'd presume in dip shits Cummins? If so, please get video from inside the truck the first time he downloads the hottest Smarty tune and proceeds to flog his truck for show. Specifically get his expression as his clutch slips like a bitch, and if video quality is up to par, even we will be able to hear it.

Yup. And at 150K miles (barely broken in), its getting ripe. He said the only reason he has been waiting to put a tuner on it is because he knew he needed to upgrade the clutch first. Then I asked him what lift pump he was getting and he said "what's that?" :teehee:

I had a guy pull up next to me in a cummins yesterday that was a manual and he mad sure to look over at my truck laugh and down shift instead of hitting the brakes and blow black smoke everywhere everytime we got next to each other I just looked shook my head and keep going

Not every owners like that I had an lb7 I loved it changed out the injectors and cups.kept diesel clean in it I never had a problem with it up to278k when I sold it not everyone's like that I guess my suburban is still being built but I don't plan on tuning the pump up too make it dirty

Pretty sure they would be UPSHIFTING to blow smoke. You know, since you guys want to sound all smart and such.

Either way, it has nothing to do with Cummins vs Duramax, it's just guys wanting to be superior to someone else. Just the same as you may feel better for not talking shit, they feel better by talking shit. I'm sure there were neanderthals that would brag about their rock hammer having seven strands of leather instead of six. Cat vs Doo, Harley vs Honda, KTM vs Yamaha, BMW vs Benz, Snap-On vs Mac, Red Wing vs Rocky, Jeep vs Toy, Smith and Wesson vs Ruger, Bose vs Denon, Dirt vs Asphalt, Kawasaki vs Sea-Doo, Stand up vs Sea-Couch, Fat vs Skinny, Blond vs Brunette, etc. Everyone does it and wants to justify their choices, and many want to gloat about it.

Just as above there are people dogging on Mopars being pieces of shit, (which they aren't) Others are going to do the same thing the other way.

Everyone knows that Redheads>Brunettes>Blondes

I had one truck that almost made me shit my pants. It was a 12 F250 that was tuned up. After throwing 10K at it for a lift, wheels/tires and bumpers with a winch up front, that thing would flat out move. It pulled harder than any others I've had in and would keep going.

I have driven many and they all do good, but I also don't live with them. That Ford though, holy cow!

I just stepped down from a mildly modded 5.9 Cummins(probably about 400hp/800lb-ft at the crank) to a 6.0 gasser about 2 months ago. While there's a night and day difference in torque, the 6.0L is still a great motor. I like the new truck and it did fine towing the 1 time I've hooked a trailer to it so far. Diesel owners just need to talk shit to make them feel better about all the extra money they're paying for the truck and maintenance. They're good trucks for sure, but the diesel superiority complex has gotten way outta hand. They're superior for towing, that's a given, but they're not the only vehicles capable of it:fish:

a 6.0 gasser will tow just as much as a cummins, powerstroke or a durasmack will it will just get really shitty gas mileage while doing it.
"just as much" is pushing it, but it'll tow most reasonable loads just fine.
