ok i am new to the jeep thing. i have a 87 yj with a 305 v8 in it. when i jump on it it spins front and rear tires in 2 high. now it has dyna 35 with 410 gears. are the 87 yj all wheel drive? if so can i buy lockouts for a dyna 35?
thanks Marc
Now, lets start to understand what you are asking. If it has a V8, then somebody swapped that in. So, what t/case is in there? I can't image you will spin all 4 tires in 2wd. So iether it isn't in 2wd, or you have an odd t/c in there. And the front axle is a Dana 30, not a dyna 35. There are hub kits for it (made by Warn) but it is much $$$.
dont no if the pics i have will be any help but if you tell me what you want to see i will take pics tomarrow. and it only spins the front passinger side wheel. that is in 2 high
If one tire up front and one in the rear are spinning when you step on the gas, that means the front and rear are locked... as in it's in 4WD, most likely 4Hi. Just because the little shifter says it's shifted into "2WD", doesn't mean it is IN 2wd.
in the t/c all the way up is in 2 high one click down is 4 high and the next is N. tryed them all. 4 low is hard to get into so the linkage is off but the t/c is going in 2 high. i just need to take it to DTS tomarrow and have them tell me what i have.
You don't seem to be understanding what people are trying to tell you. If there is power going to the front wheels IT IS NOT IN 2 HI The shifter may be in the 2 hi position, but it theres power going to the front wheels it has to be in 4-something.
Not all the time. Many times in swaps the pattern gets changed. We know there was a swap, the pattern may or may not be the same. Either way, he said he tried it in all positions.
The NP 207 is one of the weaker Jeep transfer cases, but can be upgraded. The NP 207 has an aluminum case and chain driven planetary reduction. Thankfully the NP 207 was installed behind some of the weakest Jeep power trains every used. It featured a 2.60:1 low range and a straight through design high range, but featured a driver side front output. It was used in one year of the Jeep YJ Wrangler 1987, and in the early XJ Cherokee's from 1984-1987
Crawl underneath, disconnect shift linkage from tcase. Manually shift tcase into all ranges, see if that works. If so, linkage is not adjusted. Adjust accordingly.
You expect him to remove the shift linkage when he doesn't know that much about jeeps? Then hows he going to get it to DTS when its locked in neutral? :tonka:
I think mr. green is on to something with the side wheel drive thing. See if you go in reverse if the left side will spin, that will lead us somewhere.
If it doesnt spin the other side in reverse then it is not a linkage issue. I forget what side these TCs normally get stuck in, this may be a common issue.
I am guessing that your t-case is not shifting into 2hi.
Just take out your diveshaft and be done with this silly argument.
