Something close to the Chrysler Tech Center if possible.

Any recommendations?

La Mexicana 3, they are good too. I have been travelling to Mexico for almost 20 years now, usually several times per year. Carnival is the closest thing I have seen here to 'real' basic Mexican food. I havne't found anywhere up there that does the nicer more complex foods we get in MX. Most places seem to be tex-mex, which you can find in mexico, but more in bordertowns, and resort areas. The only place I've ever got a crunchy taco with shredded cheese, lettuce, sour cream, etc, was in Juarez.

If you want to go east, Miguel's Cantina on roch rd, just north of avon is also good, a bit more american-mex..

I have friends/coworkers up often from MX, and if we go out for Mexican food, its one of those 3 places: Carnival, La Mexicana, or Miguels. Usually, I just host people at my house and cook traditional MX food.

They sound like a couple of wussies. Please tell me they are female.?.. They wouldnt make it a second in Mexico. Carnivals eating area isnt as nice as Scary Mexican Markets haha. But it as close to real authentic Mexican as you will find anywhere near that area.

Really, scared of La Mexicana? Its not even a bad area of Pontiac..

I wish there was somewhere to get proper Tortas Ahogadas outside of Guadalajara, but no one can get the bread right.

But, I'll be booking a flight there this week. I use each trip as a chance to study 1-2 dishes, so that I can cook them properly up there.

My ideas of good Mexican food. The place in the 2nd pic is awesome, they have massive vats of oil that they fry almost whole pigs for hours. The meat is almost like a pig roast, thats then chopped into carnitas. You tell the guy how much and what part of the pig you want, he grabs a big handful with his bare hands, walks over to your table and plops in on your plate.
