Rampage Frameless Soft Top

Just throwing my .02 cents in the pot. I orderd the Rampage Frameless Soft Top as a replacement for my OEM Soft Top and Frame. I also ordered it in place of my hard top when I move to Alabama at the end of the month. I needed a top that was going to be very versatile and very reliable. I believe I found that in this new soft top.

The Rampage Soft top requires three seperate pieces for install

Windshield Header Bar
Rampage Framless Soft Top
Tailgate Bar (Optional)

I ordered the three pieces above from Amazon.com (best price I could find) and received them in the mail in less than a week.

First, I will tell anyone that is going to install this themselves to HIGHLY consider asking a friend for some help. It is not difficult to install by any means. But when trying to get it into the windshield channel for the first time, it really helps having a friend to put some tension on it.

Second, DO NOT INSTALL THIS TOP BELOW 50 DEGREE'S FARENHEIT! This thing can be a BITCH to install in cold weather (lesson learned)

I have been using this top for about two weeks now to get my initial judgement of it. In that time it has rained, I have taken the side and rear windows out, and I have gotten the top plenty dirty.

I'm very impressed by several things with this top

1. the ability to fold the side windows and the rear window into the top storage bag without completely undoing the zippers. Really expedites re-installing them.

2. the access that I now have to the storage area since I dont use a rear seat. I love the fact that there are zippers on both sides of the rear window. This means that I can undo both halfway up and flip the rear window onto the roof to access the storage area. Instead of the OEM window that needs to be taken all the way around the window.

3. the additional storage pockets that the top has in the front section near the windshield gave me the added space for small pieces of paper (parking garage passes, tickets to shows, etc.) that I didnt want lost.

There are a few down sides to this top though.

1. windshield header does not fit as flush as the factory one does and therefore gets a little bit of a wind whistle at speed (Windshield channel problem, not top problem)

2. the fiberglass bows in the top that support the front section in case of heavy winds will slap at speed, but these are removable. I have been running with them in, have yet to experiment with them out.

3. the top storage bag seems rather small for the side windows and the rear window to be stored. it seems like an excellent idea, but I would much rather see individual flaps there instead of a completely seperate bag. Something that could be machine washed and put back.

This is just my rough assessment of everything thus far. I'll keep updating this as I see fit to let people know how things are going with it.

Attached is a picture of the top installed.

I also have bought the Rampage top. and I don't know if I would buy another one. :( the top is easy to use. I think the OEM top is much more quite, than the Rampage top. and the rear window tip keeps coming apart. :( I called Rampage and they sent me new zipper pulls. but it still comes apart. so I put the OEM one back on.

Love my top. Heres a pic witout the windows. I wish I would have bought a better header bar though. Not the tops fault but it gets a little bunched up in the front corners.. Thumbs up though for a sweet top for an amazing price.

I just installed one on my 97. Like a couple people have said, the rear zipper pulls leave something to be desired.

I have yanked the zipper pull right off, but they go back on fairly easily through a channel in the zipper stop that I would swear to god means they are supposed to come off. I'll try to grab a picture of what I'm talking about.

The top seems to be pretty darn good quality, looking at the reinforcements they have sewn in you can see the thought that went into the design. I had a Rampage Half top and Tonneau cover on the Jeep before, and I liked that a whole lot as well.
