How does one go about getting permission to clear some new trails? We ended up in some spots yesterday that could yield some sweet trails with a couple 6"-20" trees being removed..

There are probably miles of trails that could be opened up in there. Like Ironman said, they told us hand tools only. I usually carry loppers and a small hand saw but since I wasn't driving I didn't have them with me.

I'm not in favor of taking out trees bigger than about 4".

point of information if someone brought the idea of a new trail to the genesse county parks people they may consider it but i think out there they have to approve new trails any way and on public property operation of a chain saw requirs a national chain saw saftey certification and if you read earlier ull see where i say you have to have a cert to run a chainsaw on public land

since the the whole place is listed as scramble area the new trails aren't the issue. the real issue is the sound barrier zones. the place was 400 acres now reduced to 240 ride/drivable acres. I went with ATVOC to do trail clearing a couple years back. most of the trail is there just grown shut. the russian olive trees are nuts in there, they so thick it took 8 hours to 1/2 mile with 8 guys.

We should pick a date and go back there to clean out that ravine. If we clear out some of those dead trees laying horizontal across there, and remove 10-12 smaller trees, that would be an absolute riot back there.

It would open up 1000' of new trail.

Where I had to stop pointing towards that other trail, we could also clean that out as a bypass to going over that peaked hill that everybody broke on.

I was joking about paint. I don't care about damage either.

Theres some great hill climbs back there that just aren't possible because of trees being spaced only 5'-6' apart.

With removing a tree here or there, it would open up some sweet new climbs/ravines, and probably increase the chance of body damage.

I like the trees, but if any of the larger ones are ever cut down they should be left 12" tall to act as stationary obstacles and keep the quads from turning it into a racetrack. Varying height stumps through a thick woods with the logs strewn inbetween makes for a difficult trail, fast.
